does anyone know if job opportunities are limited as an RN if you go this route???? I usually see jobs asking for a valid RN license i am just wondering if not having my ADN or BSN will affect how many jobs i can apply for??? for anyone who doesnt know what this is it is minimum required college courses to take the nclex-RN but you do not get a degree you can only take the nclex test. as far as i know you can only practice in california with this option.

Thanks for the information... What if I get the RN license via the 30 option route, have to move to different state. Of course they won't recognize the license so I would have to do the ADN program the long way. Ok so now I have a ADN from VA, for example, and then move back to CA.... since I held a 30 unit option license here, moved got an ADN degree, would the state of CA recognize the license even though I was once licensed as a 30 unit option RN? I will call teh RN board tomorrow with the hope of getting through and will report everything they tell me:)

Why don't you just take the extra year of general education courses and get the ADN so you wont have this headache in the future? Then you can move on towards a BSN if you wish to do so in the future. IMO it's worth the extra year just to have the degree. Good Luck

I have all the prerequisites. My problem are the waiting lists.. A group of LVNs were talking about this tonight and someone posed that question. We all laughed but then I got to thinking about what loophooles. The state took away the LVN to RN programs and left us/me with limited options: pay $43-63K depending on how many prerequisites you have and attend West Coast University for the ADN program or wait 2-4 years for a slot to open in the second year of a RN program if a student drops. So frustrating!!! The question was a little extreme but it's the frustration that people come up with that.

If you live in the area where WCU is located, then you have another option, . Go to their website, http://www.wgu.edu, and read up on their BSN prelicensure program. Right up your alley. Only $4650 every six months for the two years it would take you to complete the program. Next cohort starts in April, then another one in September. Check it out.

Where in California do you live? DeAnza College in Cuptertino still has slots that I'm aware of. I applied to Hartnell in Salinas and they're unsure how many applicants they will be able to admit if they're able to. Bakersfield still has slots the last time I checked. Fresno City College has a program. FYI I heard that WCU no longer has the ADN but rather a BSN. You will have a better chance at the LVN-RN rather than the 30 unit option as schools are more inclined to take the LVN-RN than 30 unit. I know the wait lists are frustrating but if you're going to come out with a degree out in the end then you're better off. Oh Cabrillo has a wait list and still is admitting LVN-RN students on rolling basis. If you go to the CA BRN website apply to the schools that require you to have a LVN before you apply. Good Luck

Thanxs for the information. I just checked out their website and they have RN to BSN program.. not a LVN to RN bridge program :( thanxs anyway

I'm in southern California in Los Angeles. The CCs here only have 2 year RN programs and WCU is the only ADN program.

You need to look at the BSN prelicensure program, not the RN to BSN program.

LVN license fits the healthcare experience requirement and you say you have completed the prereqs so you should be set, except maybe for one or two classes that you could knock out online before starting.

Good Morning all... as promised I said I would report back with any information that I find. I found out that if you want to further your education, CSU Dominguez Hills will allow you to do so. They have an online RN-BSN program and you need a valid RN license, which the 30 unit option is, NOT an ADN degree along with a few other prerequisites. So if you want to keep going there's life after the 30 unit option!! :) Here's the link: http://csudh.edu/bsn/bsnadmission.html. CSUDH also have a online BSN to MSN program. There is hope for those of us considering this option...just takes some perserverance to find out what you want to know.

What I don't know is what the job market would be like for a 30 unit RN. Some employers advertise the applicant to have a valid RN license while others require a graduate from a valid program.

If I find out anything else I'll let y'all know... YEAH NURSES!!!!!! :)

Be sure to let everyone know what program you find that accepts you for the 30 unit option. Every one that I have looked at stated space available only, and no space was available. Sorry you didn't find the program to be desirable.

Is that the only school that will allow you to continue on with the 30 unit option? Wow, that still wouldn't convince me to do it but if that's the route you choose I hope you succeed and are able to continue on with your studies towards BSN or MSN. Good Luck....PS If I were closer then I'd go the route...
