Hi everyone!! I am in my last semester of nursing prerequisites for the ADN program at my CC. My question is, how many of you had your LVN license before you got your RN. I ask this because where I live the nursing schools have such looong wait lists and most of the time there are only 30 spots for like 400 applicants!! I am seriously considering going the LVN to RN route.
I can either wait one more semester and finish the BSN program prereq's in the fall or go straight for my LVN. There is a program close by that only takes 11 months to complete but it is a lot of $$$$! If anyone has any advice for me i would greatly appreciate it!! Thanks!!
well I am just like suebird and actually we went to the same university. I have been an LPN for seven years and just graduated with my BSN in December of last year. It was also easier for me this way it all depends on what you want to do and how convient you need it to be.
I have 3 lovely children so I took a 2 year break and then returned to school for my BSN and this way was very more economical for me and the school accepted some of my classes that I had as an LPN so I was in school for 3 years and yes it is well worth it.
I have also had a more easier transition for student to professional nurse (but of course we all know why) anyway yeah I think it will be very beneficial to work your way up the ladder. I know work in the neuro ICU and like I said the transition has been easier. Oh yeah and being LPN I also clepted out of classes, like patho., intro to psych., human development through the life cycle. and soc. plus they gave us 15s.h. credit. So it was well worth it.
Goodluck, you still have to do what is best for you.
Ann,
I am also from the bayarea too and i'm thinking the same bridge that you are right now, i already inquired on Gurnick academy in san mateo and hopefully it will work-out.I' on the second year of taking my pre-req now, It's not that i don't have a patient of taking all the pre-req but, i think it will be beneficial for me to be LVN/LPN since i don't have any medical background. I will say that go for it.
Nat:typing
I have been an LPN for three years and I can see how it is easier for me to get through @ this point because of the experience and the termonology is already in place for me. So far it is alot of review of LPN material. The meds are coming alittle easier for me> I am surprised at how much i already know.I think it helps to be an LPN first, I didn't know 80% are ADNs.
