LVN to RN STAT

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

There is a new LVN to RN program in California. Its 18 months , 2 days per week. Pre reqs are built into the program. I went to the orientation very intersting. The school is WestCoast University. They are BRN certified. They are the 2nd private school in CA to have a program like this. There first class starts 6/29/05. They are admitting 50 LVNS. No waiting list. there is a selection process. Must have a 3.0 GPA, pass the Hesi test 75% , personal interview, etc. They have a new class start every 40 weeks. Its costly... 48,000 but you can apply for Pell Grants A&B, Fasa, private scholarships, etc. Location is in Los Angeles same bulding as the American Career College. cross streets Vermont/Rosewood. You must call to attend the orientation. This school is great for people who do not have a full-time job, can self pay, or their job will support them. Thought I would share. Hopefully there will be more programs like this. Note this is not offered online or independent study.

Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would someone pay $48,000 to get an associates degree when they could get it TONS CHEAPER at a community college?

No waiting list.......................simple as that.

True. But if you pass your LVN to RN challenge exams (which is, admittedly, no easy task), and depending on how well you do on those exams ... you could skip the first or second semester of nursing school. If you can score well enough to get into third semester, that's only one year of school.

Often there's not as much of a wait since, usually there's slots open after so many people flunk out of NP1 and NP2.

And, in that scenario a CC ADN program could cost as little as $2,500.

Just some food for thought ...

:coollook:

There are no waiting lists at all for the LPN to RN CC programs here. Even in the regular ADN programs they will put LPN's before non nurses.

It's cheaper if you already have your pre reqs. Also, the books and uniforms are included in the price. If you can get grants, scholarships, etc I am sure it will be well worth it. This is another option for working adults. Community Colleges will not be able to produce enough nurses. I believe there will be more schools like this.

I will not be able to attend this school. I can not give up my job at this time. I work in corporate america they do not care too much about me continuing my education LOL. I am doing the work of a RN but I do get paid well. I am enrolled in Excelsior College but I may change schools. Not because of the bad rep Excelsior has had but because I have found a school that will accomadate my work schedule. I do well in a structured environment :>

The information I provided may be useful to someone :)

Being an "almost" Excelsior grad (I'm waiting to take the CPNE in October...*maybe*) I can't say I blame you for wanting to change schools. I also can't say I blame California for refusing to accept these graduates anymore. I don't blame Kansas or any other state for wanting them locked out. I personally do not see anything wrong with the program in particular, but the way they operate their clinical schedule is a complete joke. There is something wrong when a person has to wait 6+ months from the time they finish their "book" work to the time they can take their clinical.

I paid to get scheduled for the clinical three months ago but haven't been scheduled as of yet, in fact, I don't get anything but the runaround from the scheduling center. They just keep saying, we are trying to set up a schedule for this site you have requested, and from what we can tell we *may* be able to get you scheduled in the middle of October. So I tell them I am willing to travel anywhere, but they say the waiting list for people wanting to fill in for those who cancel is so long I might end up waiting longer than October.

The people there are friendly, but it takes more than being friendly to operate a successful school. I'm just really fed up with the rigormoroll and playing tiddley winks. Since I believe in finishing what I started I will finish this program, but I'm not going to suggest it to anyone else.

Sorry to hear about your long wait. I just feel I will do better at a "traditional school" I do not know what I would do if I graduated from EC then couldn't get a job. Yes, I am aware ppl have gotten jobs but I do not want to worry about anything. I want to be able to have an option of a new grad program. I paid my annual fee already so who knows. I start Micro tomorrow x 5 weeks then A&P in the fall. I wanted to do all my prereqs at my community college because I do not want any problems when its time to transfer. Good luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
