Hello everyone! I have been an LVN for 9 years and I really want to pursue my RN. I looked at West Coast University and boy I do not think that having that much student loan is an option. I also looked into WGU, it really looks promising however they will not credit my LVN, so that means I have to put in more clinical hours in the program. I work full time as a MDS coordinator and I have two small kinds (3 years old and 9 month old). I am willing to cut my working hours to accommodate school. Any suggestions on programs out there? Thank you.

Sounds like you're in So Cal....in north CA, if you just have to work there are only expensive private school options such as Carrington and Phoenix. They are short, include prereqs and allow you to work as long as your schedule is a little bit accommodating. I believe you have National and Kaplan in So Cal, also....
Hope someone I'm your area can give you more specific help!
Yes vintagemother I am from so cal. Will look into national university as well. Thanks

Just remember that you need to be absolutely certain that the LVN-RN program you choose is accredited by the BRN and you'll need to find out if the program you're looking at offers you a degree or if it's the 30-unit option. The 30-unit option won't result in a license that's going to be easily portable outside of California. The program I'm in offers a "career mobility" program and upon graduation the newly minted graduate is an ADN and has the same degree as those that went through the traditional route and their license will be more easily portable from state to state.
Just something to remember...
I'm in Glendale.
Thank you akulahawk. Are you in So Cal as well? Which program are you in?
In so cal, do all of the community college bridges require experience? I've noticed up here that some programs don't list that on their website as required.

Los Angeles County College of Nursing and Allied Health has an LVN-RN program that results in either an ADN as a graduate or 30-unit option non-graduate depending on which you choose to do based on the pre requisites you've taken. The DO NOT require experience. Admission to the college is based on points depending on grades and how you do on the TEAS V.

I also looked into west coast and yup that 100k+ price tag quickly scared me away. I'm trying to go through the cc route. I'm in the process if finishing my pre reqs and will apply to all cc in Cali, I don't have kids so it's easier to just pick up and move to wherever I get in. I've heard some people wait 7 years before getting into a local cc. Sounds rough.
