LVN programs at CCs

do they typically have wait lists? if so, are they as long as the ADN wait lists?

I have been looking into this for a Surgical Tech that works with me and we have found out that there are more LVN programs in so-called Adult Learning programs and "private" schools like Bryman, Maric, etc... Look into these and I think you will find it easier to get into than some local college programs. There are full-time and part-time programs that can fit into your schedule and many seem to have an LVN-RN bridge program. The cost might be a bit more thru the outside programs but then your wait time might be considerably less.

do you have ballpark figure on how much the private programs cost? if it's alot, i might as well pay for private adn or higher program. mostly wanted to do it while being waitlisted for the local adn program. so quick entry and cost are pretty important factors.

Hi, I just graduated from a LVN program in a community college..The total cost of three semesters without any financial aid help is bout $2000 including books...Private schools with LVN prgrams run about 10,000-25,000.

hi, did you have to spend time on a waitlist?

Here's the whole thing:

I attended a private school. The advantage was that they took you right away without any prerequesites. I finished the program in just under a year, but it cost me 17,000 dollars. I hear the cost of that particular program is now like 19,000.

I have a friend who attended an Adult school (and I really now wish I had heard about this prior to attending the private school) It took her a year and a half to finish and the only requirements for entering the program was that she had her CNA (which takes about 6 weeks to get) or MA (that takes longer). The only other thing she had to do was score high on the nursing pre-test they administer. She scored very high and started the program the next month. The convenience of this program was that she only had to go to school 3 evenings a week. It allowed her to keep working, and the program only cost about 3000 dollars.

Then there's community colleges. Many of these have prerequisites and a lot of them can have waitlists possibly around a year. RN schools have a much longer wait. But I know at one college near me. They require like 3 different classes which takes you at least a year to complete, before you can even start the year and a half LVN program which is full time 5 days a week. Seems a little long to me.

Good luck in your decision!

There are 180 LVN schools in California..Here is a complete list 180 schools with phone numbers. Scroll down and you wil see the list of schools. You might want to call some of them to find out about them:

Some schools have different requirments. Some schools might have no requirments and some are easier to get into. It depends on the school. To tell you the truth, at the time I went to my community college, I took one class which was Spring 2004 semester. Then I had to wait and not attend classes in Fall 2004, then the next semester Spring 2005 I was in. The school accetped 30 applicants and I beleve just one person did not get in who wanted to be in because she was tardy..Anyway, at that time, the community college had a test which wiped out a lot of applicants. It was a test about English and math..The English part of the test was very difficult not because it was hard. It was because the school did not give you time to read and think..A student would have to think really fast but luckily I made it thou, barly..Anyway call the schools in your area and talk to them..Maybe you might find a school that is right for you.

What school is this? Also, if you choose to do private schools that will cost a lot how many of them actually have transferrable credits to a four-year university if that is one of your goals down the line? Thanks for the input Nikki ;)
