Hi, My name is yatziry. I am single mother of a 2 year old and a 9 month old. recently graduated as a cna at west los angeles college. I am eager to enter an LVN program right away but I am on Calworks(public assistance) and I am not sure if attending a private school is worth it. I dont know if i can afford it. I have an interest in attending casa loma college in los angeles area. their tuition is 28,000! thats a lot! Does anyone have an recommendation?
If tuition is 28,00 how much will monthly payments be?

I attended the Van Nuys campus of Casa Loma College back in 2005 when the tuition for their LVN program was $20,000. I had financed the entire amount with a Sallie Mae private student loan at a 7% variable rate, so my payments hovered at around $240 per month.
A $28,000 student loan financed over 10 years at an interest rate of 10% would result in a repayment of $370 per month.
hey thank you for the info. so what if i qualify for Financial aid and i get pell grants. do u think payments will be 370 monthly?

My daughter attended Casa Loma when the tuition was only $24,000 and got student loans for it. I would recommend you talk to the people in the office about the financing of the schooling. Remember that there are not a lot of jobs for brand new LVNs in the Los Angeles area, so payback may be coming from another job for quite awhile until you can get a job as an LVN. Good luck.

My school won't allow FAFSA to cover their LVN program because it is not a degree program. Stafford loans do not need to be paid while in school, but the first year max for Stafford loans is $9,500. Federal Pell grant is about $5,500 max, but there may be state grants. Contact the schools financial aid department for better answers and more detail.
Hi Everyone, I am in desperate need to enter my LVN progra$ but I need to try to get scholarships! Does anybody know where to apply, where to get scholarships?

you can talk to your schools financial aid office and they can tell you about scholarships that are offered by local hospitals, and that are only offered to your school or area.
you can also fill out the FAFSA- and try to get grants if your income isnt too high. If it is, you can still get federal student loans (which dont really go off your credit) and some of them dont even accrue interest until you are done with school.
Otherwise, try fastweb.com which has a bunch of scholarships, and then you can Google "nursing scholarships" as well.
Good luck!
