LVN new grads/job search

U.S.A. California

Published

hi, I am considering enrolling in a LVN program at the end of this summer, I would graduate next december in 2011. My question is how hard is it to obtain LVN employment right now in CA? I live in the east bay. I am thinking I would work in home health but would take any area really. I am a CNA, not sure if that sort of exp would help me get my foot in the door anywhere. Advice? Suggestions? Opinions? All welcome!

The LVN job market in the Bay area is absolutely terrible at the present time. The area is saturated with too many unemployed LVNs in the area, combined with not enough jobs to go around for every nurse who would like to work.

yea I know the job market is pretty bad. But the lvns that I know found jobs rather quickly so just urious.

I left the Bay area a few years back because I was fed up with being unemployed. Truth be told, most of the time I was living there, employment was never a sure thing. Get the LVN license, but don't expect the easy route your friends had. Not everyone finds jobs that easily in the Bay area.

actually most of them found jobs in davis or sac, and I would be okay with that commute. Not expecting to easily find a job, just thinking that people move with the high cost of living here and that sort of thing....

There are jobs available, but they might not be local. Im waiting to get my results for the LVN, and start putting out resumes. Just looking around a 40-50 mile radius where im from, there are jobs in Sacramento, Auburn, Chico, Nevada City, Davis, Roseville.... OK!! That was just TODAY. Dont give up. Around here with the wait times to get into rn school, you might as well do LVN first, then bridge. Im just going to take what is available for the experience, and if something better pops up, thats that!!!!;)
