Are there any LVN-BSN students currently attending West Coast University in California ?
Im interested in this school but would like some feedback to how the program is structured, schedule, teachers ect. Would you recommend to prospective students ? Please help !
I'm just curious...what does magnet status have to do with hiring a WCU graduate? After speaking with the VA, they simply stated their requirement is a BSN from a school with CCNE accreditation. I know they will not hire ADN or from a school without CCNE...I actually used to work as an LVN for the VA and went to WCU for the ADN (which I have NO complaints about...the program was VERY intense and I was VERY well prepared for the NCLEX). I am not saying my decision was the greatest to attend there simply because of the current job market seeking minimum BSN and my credits being non-transferable...except to University of Phoenix of course...so at this point I am stuck going to UOP or back to WCU for my BSN...if you had to choose between those two options..which would you choose?
Did you try with Cal state Fullerton or Dominguez Hills? I think someone said they would take WCU graduates. I am currently enrolled in WCU and will finish in five months. How was the Nclex process at WCU? how long di it take you to receive your ATT for the NCLEX? thanks!!!
From HOAG HR directly. They will no longer be hiring WCU grads as they now have magnet status.WCU and its sister school are factories. They may be nice factories with happy clients and happy students but they are factories nonetheless. Money alone does not motivate instructors to provide quality instruction. If one of your sole motivation for going to a college is the fact they are not picky about the kinds of students they accept and that its easy to get in then I'd think twice. Would you want a Dr who went to a med school that accepted anyone who met the basic requirements?
Be an educated education consumer.
Maybe Hoag HR did not like you because my husband works with Hoag in the cancer center and they do hire WCU students. I am a WCU student and what you say is not true at all, many people gets accepted to the program but most of them cannot even make it to half the program. Our school gives us a very high quality education, we have an awesome simulation lab that many schools would envy, I think your comments are bias and without any support since you obviously did not attend WCU.

I attended the Orange County campus..It took about 2 1/2 weeks from the last day of the term to receive my ATT. You have probably already (or will soon) turned in all of your paperwork the school gives you to fill out. That is all you need to do, except they will ensure you have an account with Pearson Vue. Once you get ATT you may schedule a test date. The process at the school is pretty intense. The last term is primarily focused on NCLEX prep. They are continually changing the way they go about that last term. We did ATI tests, HESI evolve and Kaplan review. Although I personally thought my NCLEX was kind of hard (tricky) most felt it was easy...I did however only get 75 questions and passed the first time.
As far as the transfer stuff...I actually spoke with Cal State Fullerton Nursing Advisor and was told the "Nursing Dept" will accept WCU/Nursing License to meet the requirements for their nursing program...HOWEVER, the university will NOT give you credit for your classes toward a degree...therefore you will have to complete ALL general education classes that the school requires to complete a bachelors degree...for example..the Anatomy class taken at WCU will not count toward the science requirement for a degree. So besides the nursing portion, you will need to start from scratch on a BSN (that is of course unless you have already taken gen eds at a community college). I hope that makes sense...it can be very confusing. As far as I know right now UOP is the only school that will take transfer classes from WCU. They still want me to complete an additional 20 units for their program...
I am personally trying to decide whether I want to go to a "regionally accredited" university (UOP) with a QUESTIONABLE reputation or stay in my current scenario and finish my BSN at WCU...

Thank you very much for the info, I am attending the OC campus too!!! I am having your same dilemma. I checked many universities and it all comes back to UOP or West Coast. I love West Coast my only problem is that the classes are not geared for the working adult, you do not know when you have classes, and they are very intense too. UOP on the other side has the most horrible reputation ever. Yesterday I also found another school that may work and is very cheap: Western Governors University, it seems like a good school and with a nice system, I am going to talk to an advisor counselor tomorrow and see what she says. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the info and good luck in your school search!!!
PLEASE..PLEASE...PLEASE..Keep me informed. I had briefly heard of WGU before but didn't consider them because they are online only. I have to have at least one class online to receive certain Veterans benefits..HOWEVER, I realize after I get my BSN, my benefits will have run out and at that point I CAN go online only!! Soo if WGU accepts WCU BSN then I might actually go back to WCU! I am so close to signing up with UOP based mainly off the fact they are regionally accredited, despite the reputation. I'm technically enrolled in both right now..it's just a matter of whose class I show up to...I'm sooo confused..ALSO, I got a call from the admissions rep today who of course wants to know if I will be attending WCU or not..she mentioned the staff and students received an email on Dec 29th referencing something about WASC accreditation. Have you heard anything about that...did you receive that email?? Also are you going to finish with ADN or BSN? I need to make my decision by this weekend so I can tie up any lose ends for either school and begin preparing to start!!! I'm SO AFRAID to make the wrong decision!!

Hello,
I actually talked today with a counselor in WGU and she said all the classes will transfer, the program is completely online and they have both a BSN and ADN to MSN. I loved the program, it is very cheap... only $3250 per semester regardless of how many credits you take and she said most people finishes within 1 year. I hope it helps and I wish you very good luck in your career!!! By the way are you working as a RN right now? was it difficult to find a job?

What did you decide to do? what school are you going to? Can I ask you what 20 extra credits is that UOP is asking you to retake?
