Anyone else at a school with a crazy early lunch time? Last year we had two staggered lunches, one at 12 and one at 12:30, but this year they have re-vamped the entire schedule and we now have three staggered lunches and the first block is from 10-10:30. It's crazy. The kids arrive at 7:30 and eat breakfast, then they get a snack at 9 am , then they are expected to be hungry an hour later for lunch??? Makes ZERO sense to me. Why can't we do 11, 11:30 and 12 or something more reasonable? I also wish we could do away with snack but because the state pays for it, we have to give it. It's insane.

It's another example of common sense being sacrificed in the name of high stakes academic over-programming. (Meal time is being treated as a scheduling "inconvenience".)
Have to disagree about the snack, though. A lot of kids seem to need it, particularly those who don't have the early morning appetite for breakfast...

One of our grade levels where my kids used to go had lunch at 9:40 am. I can't even imagine.

This year I talked admin into having recess prior to lunch in two grades. Couldn't work the schedule for the others out. I'm interested to see if we see an increase in food eaten and a decrease in pre-lunch health visits over last year.
That is GREAT!! My daughter had recess before lunch last year from 12:40-1:10 and then lunch. Initially it seemed so late to be eating lunch, but it was great. Their teacher pushed snack to 10:30 and then they were hungry at lunch so they actually ate, and because they weren't itching to get out to recess, they actually ATE. And since school is out at 2:30, no more after school snack to worry about. Win win :)
