LTC?

Published

Hey there! I'll be taking nclex soon. However I really want to work at a LTC facility. But I'm worried I'll be overwhelmed or worse make a mistake. I really enjoyed working with the elderly in clinical and that's what made me want too. I'm just worried I'll get meds confused, or be asking the other nurses to many questions. I'm not a very confident person although finishing school boosted it some. Anyone else have those fears?

Oh geez, I completely know what you mean! I just graduated in December and passed my NCLEX at the beginning of January (just showed up on the BON website two days ago, yay!!! I'm official!!!). Completely understand the fear and anxiety of actually working as a nurse...I'm pretty confident that with a decent training program, it would be fine. However, I keep hearing all sorts of horror stories of work places throwing new nurses into situations they're not ready for or pulling them out of training early because they're so short-staffed. I'm interviewing everywhere right now, and I'm making sure to ask about what their training is like, patient load, staffing ratios, etc.

Congrats to passing! I imagine it's such a relief. I hope you get the job you want. And I know we can do it. Any opportunity is a blessing! :geek:

Will you get meds confused? Will you ask too many questions? Will you have bad days? Yes to all. You would have those wherever you work LTC or hospital or anywhere else. We all fear stepping into that first job. Yet, with perseverance and hard work, we get through it and gradually find ourselves getting to the point where we are more comfortable.

Passing the NCLEX will be a huge morale booster. I used the Saunders book and the NCLEX Mastery App. Answer lots of questions everyday and read the rationales. Reading the rationales are very helpful.

I have been working my LTC job for 9 months now. I love my job and the residents I care for. It was very hard getting things down at first. I not only use the nurses list with the residents names on them, I also have made me a checklist of who gets what when. I do a lot of double checking.

Wish you all the best in passing the NCLEX

Thank you for the encouragement. I also use the nclex mastery app and it's helped me tremendously. Good luck with your career! :sarcastic:
