LSUHSC CARE Program Information

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi. I am applying for entry to LSU's CARE program for my accelerated BSN degree in August 2008. I am just getting ready to send my application off, and was wondering if anyone here has done this program, or is currently enrolled in it.

Mainly, I'm curious about the admissions standards. I have always been a very good student, and maintained above a 3.5 in college. I also have an advanced professional degree in another field. I am hoping these things will make me an attractive candidate for the school. I am curious how competitve the program is, especially for someone who is not a Louisiana resident.

Also, I'm wondering what the program is like. I know that it's got to be pretty intense if it wraps up all the nursing education into 18 months. What is a typical schedule like? How many hours a day and things like that?

I'm really excited about this opportunity, and looking forward to reading any responses here. Also, if anyone is currently applying as well, I'd love to connect with you so we can bite our nails together.

lsunursingstudent01,

Is there anything you can share with us about the CARE program and your take on it? Are all of the clinicals done at University Hospital? Are there any subjects that were a lot more difficult than what you thought they would be? Are there any words of wisdom that you might have for students entering in the fall, such as things that would make a new student's life easier/better prepared?

I interviewed yesterday and now I just have to relax until May, when I'll begin checking the mail box several times every day. :chuckle

beejaycee,

Hi, I just read your recent post about your interview. I was just wondering if you could tell me anything about the interview process? Any pointers on how I should prepare? What kind of questions do they ask, etc.? Anything you can tell me would be greatly appreciated, I am so nervous about my upcoming interview. Also, one more thing is this a panel interview where other applicants were present or are you by yourself?

Well, I wish you the best of luck, hopefully we will soon be in classes together! I'd love to hear back from you when you get a minute.

Thank you~

nomoreIT,

Hi! just wondering if you went on your interview yet? If so, how did it go? Any pointers?? I am so nervous!

Thank you~

The care program is a great program. Fast paced but very do-able. Just take one day at a time and you'll be fine. As far as clinicals go... no there not all at UH. Depending on your clinical faculty it will be at UH, Ochsner Main Campus, Ochsner West Bank, Slidell Memorial, Children's Hospital, Tulane-Lakeside, etc.

As far as the words of wisdom... DONT STRESS. It is difficult but remember 7 other classes have managed to do it before. That's what got me through it, know that 6 other groups did it before me!!!! and enjoy your summer vacation this summer becuase its the last you'll get for a while.

I just had my interview yesterday and im not sure how it went....I was very nervous so fumbled a bit. I think they are just interested in getting to know you. As the other person posted they want to ensure that you will handle the rigors of the program well. The questions were things like: "Tell me abut yourself?" " What does nursing mean to you?" The questions are very vague. It lasted about 20 minutes. It was with two senior students in the CARE program and a professor. I was soooooooooooooo nerevous. But the best advice I have is try to relax. They just want to talk and get to know you. Hope this helps, good luck! Let me know how it goes!

Im keeping my fingers crossed.

I'll second what nomoreIT says about the interview. My experience was very much the same. I was very nervous and stumbled around myself but everyone in the room made me very comfortable and it was great to talk to a few current seniors about the program. Not sure if I made the cut with my impressive rambling interview skills but I think I did my best! Good luck to everyone who has yet to interview. The waiting game has now commenced! :D

There were 3 interviewers and me in the room. Very nice, very comfortable conversational feel! One thing I regret not being prepared for was having questions ready when I was given the opportunity to ask them. The questions I remember ran along the lines of 'name someone who admire and why' and 'tell us about your previous work experience.' If you prep for an entry level job interview, I think you'll do fine. lsunursingstudent01 hit is on the head: they are trying to get a feel for each of us as a person. Know how to state your motivations for doing this and what nursing is all about to you.

And if you have any questions that you can think of that you would like to ask current seniors if you email the program director she usually will forward the email to us and we can send a response back. We want nothing more than to see great people follow in our footsteps

Thanks to Everyone who replied with advice on the interviews! I'm sure you all did great... everyone is naturally going to be a little nervous. Anyway, I will let you guys know how it goes... Saturday cannot come fast enough!

Any idea on when we are to hear anything back on acceptance?

Thanks again everyone!

Reading posts from last year, they did not hear back until the beginning of May! :bluecry1:

Good luck with your interview -- you've prepped for it and you'll do great!

yep, you should hear back mid to late may! good luck for those with interviews this weekend :)

Hey !

Just wanted to let you know I had my interview today... I'm really not sure how I did. I fumbled a bit as well, it was a little nerve racking. I really do think they understand that we are all just nervous.. afterall, if you're not that may be clue that you really don't care. Anyway, now all I can do is wait! I can't believe we have to wait until May! Any clue if it's the beginning or end of May? Well take care and write back if you get a minute! Thanks!!
