LSU Spring 2018 BSN

Published

Hi there! Im sure it's alittle early, seeing as the semester's not quite over, but I was wondering if there was anyone else out there applying to LSU SON Spring 2018 traditional BSN? I figured I'd start up a topic so we could have somewhere to network and help each other out. Has anyone else already taken the HESI? Or previously applied? I've already taken the HESI and scored pretty well but I'm so nervous and worried it still won't be enough since LSU is super competitive and this will be my first time applying to any nursing school. Does anyone know what the average scores/GPA that was accepted the past couple of entering classes? Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks!

hello, i've just been accepted into the SON fall 2017, so if you have any questions about the application process, i'll be happy to help as much as I can

How was the interview process and the essay? Do you happen to know what the lowest GPA/HESI score accepted was? I'll have a 3.6 overall and a 3.45 with the first 6 courses that they look at and a 91% on the HESI. I can only hope that's good enough. I ended up paying for the professional transcript entry for the NursingCAS application so that I won't screw it up some how and can have someway to double check it. How many people got in for the spring? Sorry for the boatload of questions.

I'm applying for next spring, as well! Soooo glad that you started this thread. My GPA for the first 16 hours is a 3.8.

Wow, a 91% on the HESI sounds awesome! I'm aiming for at least a 90%. I take the HESI in two weeks for the first time and am pretty nervous. How did you study? I bought the book by Elsevier since they make the exam, and I heard it was the best. I have also been watching review videos and taking online practice tests.

I went to one of the info sessions held at the school, and they said around 200 people typically apply a semester. They accept around 100.

I used the book and watched the mometrix videos to review and used the hesi a2 prep app from pocket prep to quiz myself. The app and the book helped alot. I ended up taking the hesi before I took chem and bio and did pretty well. I'd take it again now that I've taken everything, but they only take the most recent and I don't want to do worse than before.

The interview process was very laid back. You record yourself answering the questions they give you, so you're not actually talking to a person. and the essay was a pretty straightforward question. I got in with a 3.58 on all pre-reqs and a 92% on the HESI, but I also graduated from LSU with a bachelors before beginning nursing school. I think they accepted around 100 people

Is anybody still using this thread? Just sent in my application and I'm SUPER NERVOUS 😩

I just happened to check back! I sent mine in last week. I'm totally freaking out but excited!

Ah I know! Any idea when we'll hear back? I have a good GPA and HESI score but I'm worried because I'm using AP and pass credit for some courses.

I have no idea! I hope at least by mid-August. I know we go do our written statements at the end of September, so they'll have to invite students for that by then. I have one pass credit from high school, too! At the info session, they said the pass credits basically don't affect your GPA and that's all. You just have credit for those courses. So like if you have a good GPA and have some pass credits, then the pass credits work in your favor. But if you have a lower GPA and have pass credits, then technically they hurt you since they can't help bring your GPA up. I hope that makes sense! Haha.

Don't stress too much about the application process the entire administrative team is very friendly and wants to help you succeed. Our applications were due by mid January, and we heard back about doing an online interview by the beginning of February. Then we did the written statement a month later, beginning of March. The longest part was waiting to hear back after the written statements, because that's when they sent acceptance/waitlist letters. We received our letters mid April (if i remember correctly). Good luck to everyone!

Sent in my application fee and Summer transcript last Friday! Now time to play the waiting game.....
