Fall 2013 LSU program...anyone else out there?!

Thanks for all the helpful info! I think I may go and do all of this during orientation. Anyone who plans on doing the same can join!

The LSBN application was like a 62.50 Money order i think but they will literally do it with you at orientation. And you have some time to pay it and get your prints. If I were you I would wait until orientation, bc even though it was just last semester you never know what could change. Oh and also, if you're taking anatomy you can go get your scrubs. Whatever brand, whatever color. That was fun to go shopping for, makes it all feel real :). They really recommend the website, and don't bother with the malpractice or CPR yet, they only last for a certain amount of time so you are wasting your money to do it early. Idk if y'all noticed but the fb page has other repeating sophomore 1s on it now, and they are very willing to help also!

The last thing I want to do is give you outdated information. Like I said a couple days ago, their orientation has changed a lot just from last semester (being a week early and multiple days). Try not to spend money on stuff you haven't actually heard for yourself. I just wanted to prepare you.

Wait now I'm confused...the LSBN application we do at orientation includes our background check? We wear scrubs for anatomy? Exciting! I have some already from a previous job in that case :)

What brand of scrubs do you recommend? Oh, I'm pumped now!

And our background check is something we do on our own. I already did that and the website sends the results straight to the school. I believe it's NSO.com. The LSBN application is something different, if I'm not mistaken. :)

Yeah I thought the LSBN application and the background check was something different. But the way she worded it confused me and made it sound like the LSBN application was the background check, lol. But yeah I'm gonna do my background check soon through the certifiedbackground.com website LSU recommends. And I'll probably go ahead and do the fingerprints and drug tests soon too to get it out the way.

Wait...so if the LSBN application costs $62...then we need to bring the money for that to orientation? They haven't mentioned that to us...

See I thought we were supposed to get certified during orientation when I got the email about BLS but obviously not. I am easily stressed out with dates and having no control over any of this, but I will say that I can't imagine any of this needs to be done before orientation and if we need any amount of money $50+ during orientation, I imagine you also have the option to attach it to your fee bill. And as other Katie said, many certifications and such expire so doing it early probably won't help. Most of this stuff we have to do is in prep for clinicals as I'm realizing so none of this is necessary until second semester and we have the whole winter break to stress about it. And I would be more than willing to carpool with people or group to get some of it done (I have a car and live in new orleans already, so out of towners and people that live on campus could ride with me or something). Doing it together may relieve stress on some of us too since we're all trying to figure this out. And if we're confused and all talking to each other, everyone else probably is too so we've got to all be in the clear.

Yeah I called and asked about the CPR email because I was confused too! But no, we can't do that then. It's all very confusing :( But yeah I'm waiting till winter break for the CPR training. The background check and drug test and fingerprinting I'll probably do in August cause I think fingerprinting is needed with our LSBN application. I spoke to someone a week ago maybe saying we will get orientation emails. So they should be coming soon!

I know how you feel though, I'm easily stressed as well with things like this. lol :nailbiting: I just like to be informed and organized and know what's going on! I'm not a last minute fan lol

The background check that you will be paying for is separate from the lsbn application. But the state board of nursing does their own background check on you. You don't need any money right away. They will tell you when your deadline is to turn in the application, money, and fingerprints. On the topic of scrubs, I was and still am clueless as to which ones are best! But I had black scrubs (don't recommend) but definitely recommend dark ones bc of spillage ;)

All the clinical requirements aren't "due" until the semester you start clinicals. The lsbn stuff is all done this semester to clear you to enter clinicals. Does that help?
