  1. Yes, you will get all of your information at New Student Orientation in August. The drug test is something you can get done on your own towards the end of your first semester. Background check, I would recommend getting that done before school starts. I used certifiedbackground.com. The fingerprinting was provided for us by the school during our first semester. All we had to do was come to school, wait in line, and give someone a check and our license, and then you got fingerprinted! And then for the LSBN application, you will actually get to do that during new student orientation; they will literally walk you through the entire application. Just bring a check during orientation! And they will tell you how much to bring (pretty sure it was around $62). Hope this helps!
  2. Class usually starts on a Wednesday, so possibly August 13th.
  3. My friend who is a male nursing student said that he has white Nikes and the best place to look is Academy. :)
  4. Yes it includes all-white shoes, but you really don't need to worry about that until winter break.
  5. Yeah a lot of people weren't following the dress code, so now uniforms are being placed for coming to class. We have to buy polos from the bookstore that are either white, purple, or grey (I bought all 3 colors). And you also have to wear either black or blue dress pants with the polos. It sucks, but I plan on bringing a change of clothes if I plan on being on campus all day. There is another uniform for clinical, which is the all-white scrubs but that isn't until your SOPH 2 semester.
  6. A lot of the stuff that should be done during the summer is getting a physical exam done, TB skin test, malpractice insurance, urine drug screening, Basic Life Support (BLS) for CPR certification done. They will tell you you absolutely need your malpractice insurance to enroll in classes, which isn't necessarily true. I would buy it towards the end of your first semester, that way it will last longer, because it needs to be renewed every year. Also, by the end of the summer, I would just try to get your books from Amazon or rent them, and uniforms are also being implemented this fall, so I would get that as well.
  7. Hey everyone! I'm a current SOPH 2 at LSU and I can TOTALLY empathize with what y'all are going through! I was one of the VERY LAST people to get a letter, and I thought for sure I wouldn't get in (but I did!). Don't give up if you haven't gotten your letter yet! It's probably still in the snail mail system somewhere. For those of you who already got accepted, congratulations! Enjoy your free time now, because you will be in for a total culture shock beginning in August. Prepare as much as you can ahead of time during the summer. If you put your time and energy into it all, it is do-able! If y'all have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them!
  8. Congratulations to all of you on getting accepted to LSUHSC! Get prepared for the wild ride that is nursing school. I'm currently a SOPH I and our semester is about to wrap up. I know all of you are excited to hit the ground running, so here's my news to tell y'all that I'm selling my books from this semester. It includes: Physiology textbook Anatomy flash cards Anatomy Atlas If you're interested and want to know prices, please email me at [email protected] Good luck!
  9. Perfect! Thank you for all your advice!
  10. What brand of scrubs do you recommend? Oh, I'm pumped now! And our background check is something we do on our own. I already did that and the website sends the results straight to the school. I believe it's NSO.com. The LSBN application is something different, if I'm not mistaken. :)
  11. Thanks for all the helpful info! I think I may go and do all of this during orientation. Anyone who plans on doing the same can join!
  12. Yeah that's the one I got. It takes about 2-4 days to process and get your results. And LSBN is the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  13. I got the email as well but I already got CPR certified in June through the American Heart Association. We do need to be certified before school starts. I have a friend who is a JR II and she says that they explain everything we need to do really well and spell everything out in black and white. Just a few more weeks!
  14. I know what financial aid I've received and I've already accepted it through the Student Self Service. I'll called the Financial Aid office with alley questions. Hope this helps!
