Hi everybody,
Im new to this site and could really use some advice. Im starting LSU traditional BSN program. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about what to expect and what I should do to prepare. Also if anyone is actually a student at LSU that would help or if they are starting in the Fall as well.
There is one busy work class your first semester. There are a few others later on in the program that are necessary for a BSN (Research, Genetics), but all you want to do is work on your clinical stuff and you'll feel that they're unnecessary! I think those fall in your JR II semester.
As for clinicals, I can't answer your question there. Traditional clinicals are set up very different from accelerated clinicals so I don't want to give you a wrong answer. My weekend clinicals were a fluke (not normally scheduled - it was an instructor need) and I only had 2 of my 12 days on a Saturday. Not sure that happened with the traditionals. There isn't a ton of choice in the clinical arena. They'll ask for volunteers for the Northshore/Slidell and ask who doesn't mind nights, but that's about the extent of your choice there. Regardless, you won't have clinicals till sometime in your second semester.
If you don't already have a PDA, I wouldn't waste your money. PDA nursing programs are costly and all clinical instructors I've had, with the exception of 1, didn't permit students to use them. I bought the programs for iPod Touch and I've barely been allowed to pull out the Touch to use them. It's up to you. The school has been very tough on using any electronics as of late thanks to a group of dishonest people.
sarjan1,
I emailed an advisor and she told me that the website just hasn't been updated yet and there is no rush for those forms quite yet! But it said something about getting access to the LSUHSC internet upon receiving our admissions fee provided they have our current email, but i havent gotten one from them yet and my fee has been in for over 2 weeks.....has anyone gotten an email?

cpk, sorry to keep bothering you with questions but I was wondering if you can suggest any supplies or equipment we should buy for our first semster. If you could that would be awesome! :)

lsufan,
I heard from a current student that they are no longer allowed to bring laptops, or recording devices into lecture if that's what you're talking about.
But I think you're talking about PDA's for clinicals, and I have no idea.
