Hi everybody,
Im new to this site and could really use some advice. Im starting LSU traditional BSN program. Was wondering if anyone has any advice about what to expect and what I should do to prepare. Also if anyone is actually a student at LSU that would help or if they are starting in the Fall as well.
gratz Sarjan!
Did anyone else get info on housing besides the ones that already said they did? I called the Housing people and they keep telling me that they will send out info later this week. I wonder why they sent info out to some and not to others. I guess they could be holding out for people that have their application pending.
U know I think all these people are giving us the run around because no on really knows anything and they keep giving us all different information. This seems very unprofessional to me and I really hope the school itself is not this unorganized. Assuming I do get accepted.
I really hate to be negative because I know y'all are really excited (I remember being the same way) but get used to at least this level of disorganization and more. The school itself IS that disorganized. You really have to know how to go with the flow around here. Some minor things: schedules can come out less than a week before class starts and you may not know what books you need until the first day. Unlike main campus, all registration is done on paper (nothing online) and everyone waits in line the old fashioned way. You also can't use credit cards for tuition, fees, parking, etc. I don't have financial aid, but that's something to stay on top of too - classmates have met frustrations there.
Everything right now is budget cuts. While it's technically the State's fault, it's not being handled well from the top of the LSUHSC organization (i.e. from the head of the entire LSUHSC institution, not just the nursing school) on down. I don't think anyone knows how funding is being dispersed nor who gets the funding. Remember, the institution you're entering includes numerous health fields under one roof.
You guys will get a great education but the road is frustrating thanks to communication and disorganization issues. Staff members are retiring and not getting replaced (I'm guessing that's the need for smaller classes) and the remaining ones are tired and overworked. Just take a deep breath and be ready for anything that comes at you.
Oh, and housing has no set list nor order. They tend to accept at random. Keep bugging them so they know your name!
Things can be VERY "not fair" here. You have to take your education for what it's worth, though, and know you're getting a good one no matter what you go through to get it.
LOL! I think that combo alone has you ready for it! You have the right attitude already. I did my pre reqs at Degado also and it taught me to just roll my eyes and keep on truckin'. So many people aren't able to handle the disorganization and are spending more time fighting with instructors/administrators than learning. It brings others way down, for sure. I don't think it's worth it to fight when there's nothing that can be done. Some things will be worth fighting for and you'll know them if you happen upon them, for sure. I just saw the comment on disorganization and had to spill my guts.
Good luck to anyone who hasn't heard yet and congrats to those who did.

Happy, can you ask them if you can just send your deposit and tell them what type or housing you prefer? Because thats really not fair the way they are doing it especially since they are saying that Stanislaus is filling up fast but they wont let you reserve it. The email wasnt any big deal it just listed the types of housing and the deposits you would have to put down. Do you remember when you turned in your application? I wanna say I turned mine in a week and a half after the interview.
lsufan: the advice given to 3 of my friends currently in housing was to simply "bug the crap out of them!" Keep calling and have your name known. They don't seem to have a "system" and, no, it's not run fairly nor does it have any semblance of organization. One of my friends spoke of bribery and I'm not sure about that but I wouldn't put it past them.

lol wow. No it is not organized very well I see. I was lucky to be able to reserve my spot on time. I took your earlier advice a month and a half ago and went to the school and made myself known by touring the housing and being friendly to the people in the office. Maybe thats why they followed up with me I guess? I really think its unfair that people who turned in their application the same time as I did aren't able to reserve their spots as well. That seems odd to me.....
I turned in my housing application like 1.5 months before the school's application was due. So I don't have any earthly idea how some are getting information about housing and I haven't heard a word. Just sorta nervous I guess because I don't want to go last minute apartment hunting if I can't get into one of the residence halls. I put down my preference as a 1 bedroom but when I asked them about it in person (when I turned in the application) they said those are generally a couple of semester wait so I put down the 2 bedroom as my 2nd choice.
I'm assuming they get a lot of phone calls because when I call, the lady sounds a bit flustered. I guess there's nothing I can do until the end of the week.

I got in!
I've called other times, but today I guess I got the RIGHT person. They had my address wrong!
So, after a few hours, they have it figured out and emailed me my acceptance letter!
Good luck ya'll, I'm sure it's just a matter of time.
