LSU BSN Fall 2012 applicants

U.S.A. Louisiana

I thought I would start a thread for those of you applying or have already applied for Fall 2012 for the BSN program at LSU. We can freak out together and perhaps share tidbits of informative information along the way!! Best of Luck Ya"ll :nurse:

KristenNola--I'd say you definitely have a great shot at getting in! Make sure to write a very strong written statement and do awesome in your interview! GPA isn't the entire factor in getting in! And plus, you have above the minimum requirements, so there is no doubt in my mind that you will get in!

KristenNola, I think you should be fine! my pre-req GPA was a 3.6 and my HESI score was an 86! Good luck :)

Congrats to all the new Soph 1's for Fall of 2012! Like someone said before, buckle up and get ready for Physiology (...and pretty much everything else, especially Pharmacology). That class nearly killed me haha. Come August, the reality of nursing school will set in very, very fast. Good luck!

Do any students know what we do at the advising session? Anyone that's taken physiology, do you think it would be a good idea to buy the textbook and start reading over the summer?

Can anyone private message me if they currently use LSU's health insurance and/or planning to get it. I have made several inquires by phone and have read the website a few times and I am still stumped. I am wondering if I am to get insurance through school and have it paid for by my student loans, is it possible to sign up NOW, and use it to pay for the physical, immunizations, and such? That would be much cheaper. Just trying to figure out how much each visit would cost is making my head spin. Thanks!!

Never mind about the about post. There will be an open enrollment kind of thing around July 1st.

lsutigermmm, yes. it is a very good idea to get the book and start reading over the summer. Also, always look at the questions in the back of the chapter - a lot of clicker questions come from there. Find some good sources for MCQs, because those are also a good way to figure out whether or not you really understand the material.

As far as getting your titers cheap, there's a place on Canal Boulevard, I think it's called Innovative Risk Management. It's in the Liberty Bank building. If you tell them you are getting titers done for nursing school, it's $100 for four titers. My job paid for my TB test and my Hep B vaccine (PM me if you want the scoop on that).

What is the name/author of the Physio book?

On an unrelated topic, what is the word on the housing options. Dorm vs apartment? Cleanliness, newness, etc.

Thanks!

BrennMan, it's Vander's Human Physiology: The Mechanisms of Body Function, Twelfth Edition

I got the book from a friend and she also gave me Board Review Series Physiology, Fifth Edition by Linda S. Costanzo (not sure if this one is required or just recommended)

Thank you very much Amber!

[TD=class: c1]Greenkat, I'm having issues with financial aid as well. I completed my FAFSA a few weeks ago, and just received this email today:

"You initiated the student financial aid application process for the 2012-2013 academic year. However, we need the information and documentation noted below to complete your file and award your aid. Because we generally award financial aid in file completion date order, your prompt response will help ensure timely delivery of your funds.

The LSUHSC Student Financial Aid Office website (noted above) includes links for online filing and e-signing of Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Notes, as well as Verification Worksheets and other aid application information/resources. Continuing and newly matriculated students can track the status of financial aid requirements on their online Student Self Service page; shortly after the requirement is complete we will remove it from your "To Do" list. For Self Service instructions see: http://www.lsuhsc.edu/ps/support/SelfService/Student_Self_Service_Home.aspx."

Not really sure what I'm supposed to do from here or what any of that means... where am I supposed to go to find this so-called "To Do" list??
