Everyone seems to be posting some pretty "disturbing" info about the LS 1-3 exams. For all that have taken it.....

If SG101 is inadequate AND the Excelsior exams are not in line with the actual exam then what other sources beside the recommended reading in the text books are good sources? I have the Saunders NCLEX review and just started studying for LS1. I usually go to the CD and take a couple tests in "quiz" mode to see how well I do. It just seems that most of the questions I am getting are review and I'm thinking..."it can't be that easy" and I don't want to be unprepared. Is the Saunders enough to study? I've read that LS1 isn't that bad so maybe this one is easy but when it comes to LS2 and LS3 what suggestions does everyone have.

I've now passed all 3 Lifespan exams and would say I personally used the recommended text along with the Saunders.

I relied heavily on my recommended text though.

I read about the studyguide101 on here but never tried it so I can't say anything about it.

I personally think that SG101 has a lot of important info. i took LS1 last year and did not pass, but on the way home I looked over SG notes and found 25-30 questions that were on actual test.

I have not used SG101 for any exams except Chronicity. I found a few errors. I thought Saunder's was pretty spot on for LS1 and I take LS2 tomorrow but I can tell you for what I have done so far, I had conflicting interventions between Saunder's and what Excelsior wants, on at least 3 items. I did the required reading in Smeltzer and was quite prepared. I did well on the practices exams too. I have put more than double of the amount of effort so far into LS2-time, reading everything twice, reading that blasted psych book almost 3 times. And LOTS of memorizing with this one. I didn't have to memorize nearly as much with LS1. Good luck with your studies :)

I used SG101 notes for lifespan 1 and 2 and passed both! there were a few errors but for the most part they worked for me! I also did the recommened reading.

I used saunders and the med surg book and found that adequate for LS1 through LS3.

I took and pass LS2 today but I can tell you it was very difficult. It was not what I expected. Granted i went in without feeling fully prepared and expecting to get 40% Psych questions.....turned out to be about 50% metabolic....no kidding! Psych was my strength and I ended up getting the lowest % in. Although I perhaps shouldn't complain. Never cracked a text. Just Saunders and studied for 2 weeks. For LS2 you must know all the diseases inside out. Some of the questions are multi dimension in that it combines disorders so you will need to know the dominoe effect of one dx unto another. Lots of meds! I still have LS3 to do but I will definitely put more time into in than LS2. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the LS 2 feedback. This exam sure has a bad reputation. I hope I'm successful tomorrow. I saved my sample questions from the content guide for tonight & only got a couple wrong out of 27, but they seemed straight forward. The actual exam appears much tricker by what others say. Congrats on passing & wishin all the best for LS3!

Good Luck tomorrow! Know your electrolytes disturbances for the Regulatory & metabolic. I also received some of the practice test questions but other than that I didn't think the practice tests helped that much this time. Maybe because I got too little psych and more Metablic d/o.
