can anyone give me the real scoop on lrmc? what are the working conditions like now with the union in place? would you recommend this facility or suggest that new grads stay away?
what are the nurse/patient ratios?
how about pay and differentials?
benefits, in particular medical- how much is employer paid, how much is employee paid, etc.
are there seasonal layoffs? :uhoh21:
all input much appreciated! :)

Worked there for a year! I had a great nurse manager that really supported the use of LPN's! I live an hour away and had difficulties getting my daughters to school on time, thats the only reason I quit! Their really wasn't alot of hoopla about the union ,that I can remember... LRMC got me my IV class and my central line certification... I say go for it, remembering that ALL hospitals (not to mention all employers!) have some issues!
I never recieved any medical/dental benefits, I opted out... got an extra 52.00 in my check every payday.... They had good diffs, I can't remember the exact amount ! I was a new graduate when I walked in the door.... I got alot of great experience there... The other nurses there are also very friendly (mostly)!! hope this helps!
I will also be a new grad in May and also live an hour away. near orlando i do have an interview on friday for the ED but I'm not sure what to do if they do end up offering me a job. Not a lot of hospitals will hire an New LPN and thats were I would like to work. ANY SUGGESTIONS? HELP?:uhoh21:
The ED there is CRAZY.. (the only level 2 In the area!) The statistic is 340-350 patients a day in the ED! Thats what they told us in a memo.... GOOD LUCK!

I am currently employed at LRMC, but as a Nurse Intern so things are a little different for me. Thus far I have only worked 3 days in the CCU and have found that ALL of the nurses and staff are extremely helpful and answer any questions that I have. Scheduling is flexible but I dont think that applies to the full time RN's who work 12 hour shifts. Havent heard anything about the union at all.
I know base pay for new grad RN's is close to $20/hr then add the diffs to that. I can get a payscale and post it here but it may take a few days to do so.
The only real complaint that I have so far is the insurance, it is expensive, most employers in Lakeland who offer insurance have much lower premiums. I have heard but am not totally sure but I think LRMC is the highest paying hospital in Polk County thanks to the union.

I will be moving to Lakeland the end of May 05 and hope to go to work here at this hospital. I have visited their website many times. Can you give me some info about starting payscale for new LPN's. I wish to further my nursing career and am told they will help you do that. I am a recent LPN graduate, I have worked for 6 months on a med/surg floor and hope to continue on the same kind of floor at LRMC. Are there any day positions or does everyone have to start on 3-11 shift like I did at the hospital I am currently employed with. Do you have to take a math calculations test in order to work there? The hospital I am at now requires you to take this test..Math is not my strong suit. I am looking for a point of contact that currently works there and who might communicate with me via email. Can you give me some info on Lakeland and is it a nice city to live in. We are military..and finally getting out and want to settle in this area. Thanks so much.

I have been checking lout Lakeland in general. It looks like a nice area: maybe a bit away from the craziness of Central Florida.
