LPNs in RN programs -- do you get bored?

Okay, I'm probably jinxing myself for life, but....

I work in a ICU stepdown / telemetry unit. I'm in my 2nd semester, and I'm bored out of my mind. Is it just me?

Tomorrow's test is diabetes...already took care of DKAs, HHS, know the different insulins, know regular's the only one you give IV, know that you hold metformin before CTs with contrast and look at the creatinine...etc. Now, maternal/OB/peds will be different, because I don't have any real experience other than my LPN clinicals, but for right now...:banghead:

Dear lord yes! I just keep reminding myself that it's a good review and that I have to jump through this hoop to jump up the ladder. When my eyes start to close in class, I think of what the poor regular RN students who have no experience must be going through. Remember what it was like when all of this information was brand new to you? Just be glad that's not where you are now! :chuckle

So is your program a bridge LPN to RN or do you have to start at the beginning of the RN program?

I can get bored, but I really try to realize how awesome it is to review some of the procedures that most of my classmates are cramming to learn (I was once there-"learning" to pass an exam). Now, I'm able to see the details, as I understand the big picture. Trust me, some days it's a real strain on my mind to keep it studying what seems to be review. I do find I still need to study even though I remember the general concepts!

I'm in a regular ADN program. I applied before I even started the LPN (graduated in Dec), as there was a wait list for RN. My LPN classmates are having to wait at least a year (Fall 2010 next opening) for the bridge, as now there is a wait list for that, too. Everyone called me crazy for not just doing the bridge, but I have to say, I'm willing to do a little review rather than wait possibly a year plus just to begin a RN program. Stay positive! In nursing, it never hurts to see things over and over in my opinion! Good luck, and nice to hear of other people who are LPNs doing the RN the long route!

Our "bridge" meant I didn't have to do first semester clinicals, didn't have to take nutrition (was in the lpn program). I just wish I could have tested out of the basic stuff, and just hit the areas where I need the refresher....but if it puts RN behind my name, I'll just grin and do it....

OMG....I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have 5weeks before I graduate and I am dying!!! I already work in CCU as an LPN. I don't know everything...I will always have something to learn. That being said....I am so bored. I have already done my CCU rotation and I'm doing Med Surge/Oncology now. I have trouble making myself go to lecture. Just keep telling myself....5 more weeks.

Well, I get extremely bored at times and I really feel guilty about it. I also feel sorry for some of my friends who are having a difficult time and I try to help out whenever possible. I bridged and will graduate in December so to all the May graduates, you are the lucky ones. I have to sit through one more semester of pill passing clinicals and complaints about the tests and not having enough time in the day to get things done.

I am glad it is not just me. Aside from some minor things I have yet to learn anything. And clinicals are a joke. I did get to IV push and hang blood.. but I already knew exactly how to do it from working in the hospital with co-workers who taught me everything , not just my LPN scope.

I am really gnashing my teeth over this program and just hoping for it to go by fast. I just want the RN, but it is frustrating. I feel bad for the other people in school, the 2 year students who are working so much and studying, when I think about the effort I am putting in. I would not have changed the fact that I got my LPN first, because the experience I got while I worked on my BSN pre-reqs was impeccable, however I might have considered an online program instead.
