Yes, I know this has been asked on there since time immemorial. And I know there are people with non-nursing degrees that chose nursing afterwards. But wanted to know if there are any LPN's here who are getting degrees in something other than nursing...after the fact.
Recently went to two job interviews where they couldn't understand at first, why I wouldn't want to get my RN. The Don at the first job was just confused. The 2nd Don who interviewed me at another facility thought it was pretty cool.
Currently pursing my masters in statistics.
(because while I like that the LPN job pays my bills and I am comfortable with LPN duties, I also realized a little later than most that I love math, especially stats and want to eventually pursue this love after I graduate) While I have had my reliable LPN career to let me dabble in certain areas, such as i.e. a degree in history, (obviously from my name! and personal training) Statistics just clicked with me and I love it. I think eventually I'd love to work as a statistician.
I still plan to put 110% in my LPN job. I just want to explore other facets and not limit myself. Both nursing jobs did offer me a position. The fact that I'd be graduating (not for another year and a half) didn't seem to scare them off. Maybe one day I can combine Lpn work with stats. Doubtful, but who knows! So anyone else out there who is an LPN pursing a non-nursing degree?
Or am I the lone LPN oddball who is getting a degree in something totally unrelated to healthcare? (then again maybe I'll use my statistical know how in a research capacity!)

Wow!!!! Just....wow! A nurse who loves statistics! My dream for you would be a doctorate in nursing practice (DNP). Or an MSN in leadership and administration. Or a research in nursing career! Oh the possibilities! But, follow your heart...there's a lot to be said for professional gratification.
