Im adventuring with senior home care from care.com. I live in Washington State and am currently an LPN and have many years experience with senior care. I am staying within the scope of my practice for my clients. I have not started this position yet and am going to do assessments before hand and making my own medical chart for my clients, keeping prog notes, etc. Coordinating care with their PCP's and/or any specialists, providing help with ADLS and possibly med management, along with just being a companion. This position is for a single family.
Is there any certifications I need to do private care within this state? What insurance should I be looking at getting? Is there anything that I should be keeping my eye out for, besides CYOA! (cover your own ass!)
The private nursing vector is pretty vague about some things online.. any better links maybe?
THANK YOU!!!

I would contact the WA LPN Board, preferably in writing. If you are not happy with the written answer they provide, then reconsider. I would not be inventing any medical record for a private client.

I would go through an agency, rather than direct-hire.
As a direct-hire, you will need Liability Insurance, malpractice insurance, you'll need to self-pay the employer contribution to your FICA (Social Security and Medicare) in addition to the employee portion, and you won't be covered by Workers Compensation insurance if you get injured on the job.
If you're working through an agency, all you need is malpractice insurance (which you should have already!), and the agency takes care of the rest.
