I've been an LPN in GA for over 20 yrs and have worked in a physician's office most of that time. I haven't worked in the last 2 years due to family illness. Now I want to return to school and get my RN and return to hospital nursing. My question is should I try to get into a bridge program by becoming employed or should I apply for the generic program? I was thinking the generic would be best but after reading posts about how hard it is to get into the generic I'm not sure. How long would I have to be employed as an LPN to meet the requirements for the bridge program? The local hospital won't employ me as an LPN due to the fact that I haven't worked in a hospital in so many years. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I may be wrong, but I thought you only had to hold the license to meet the requirements for a bridge program, I didn't know you are expected to be employed. Usually, nursing programs discourage employment while in school. My advice would be to apply to any and all programs that you qualify for due to the difficulty in getting a place. Your best bet should be the bridge program since you have the license, but that doesn't guarantee that you can get into that program quicker than any of the others. Good luck.

I am a LPN . I have been out of nursing for twelve years being a SAHM. I am returning to school in a few weeks. I requested information on the local Bridge program. You have to have been employed in direct patient care for the last year. I am going to go the general route to get my RN.
Thanks for your reply. I'm going to start my core classes in January working towards my general track RN. I'm hoping it's not quite as difficult as people say to get into the nursing program. Good luck in school :)
