Hi Everyone, I've been a nurse for a lot of years. I love it and hate it at the same time. I love the work I do ----there's just too much of it! If you don't mind I do have a question to put out. I work in a nursing home and I feel like I'm attached to the medcart all night. Even if I start passing meds at 3:30 I'm not done with the first medpass until almost 6! Of course it doesn't help with all of the interruptions and there are always some meds that are missing and I have to leave my unit to go to the e-box. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there anyone out there who has any organizational ideas that would help? I'm on the other side of 50 and I just don't have the energy I used to. Thanks for any help you have to offer.

Welcome to my world! ARRGH! I work at an ALF and it is just as bad. I too, am 50+ and the work load is killer. I have 40 residents, all of whom take multiple Rx and med pass takes entire shift. There is NO way you can decrease the volume of work - it is way too much for one person to complete in a timely fashion, short of pre-pouring meds (a non-no), but a necessity to get it done in time.
