Published

Hi everyone.I start LPN School in 1 month and I admit I'm nervous...I'm 22, no kids, no job, ill have a 30 min commute (but me and someone else will be carpooling) 11month program then bridge to rn, then to bsn, msn, etc.,. I Just want to know is there any tips anyone wishes to share with me, organization tips, what to be working on or looking at during this month, any online notes that will help, seriously anything will be appreciated. Thanks

Specializes in Maternal Child, Home Health, Med/Surg.

Tips....Let's see, I've almost finished my first of four semesters, so I'll give you what I've learned so far:

- Read ahead, but not TOO ahead.

- Take your OWN notes - don't just use the teachers

- DON'T PROCRASTINATE

- Use flash cards(or whatever means will help you)

- Delegate time to YOU as well, or else you may go crazy

- Use the books study guides(most have them you can buy)

- Have a GOOD stethoscope - if your school provides one and you don't like it, replace it

- You may feel like you're drowning, but just keep swimming!

I'm starting in September and I'm super excited too!!! Good luck to you!!

The best advice I recived before starting nursing school and I will pass it on to anyone looking for advice is to rest, hang with friends and family, clean up ur house, and enjoy this time off. Bc when school start you will barly have time to do any of these things. It's tough but worth it.

1.READ your material not some of it all of it!

2.If this is your first college experience find out the way that you best retain information and do it quickly

3.Be able to apply the information that you retain and have rational behind why you do what you do and why you picked the answers you picked

4.if you study a certain way and don't pass your first exam incorporate a new technique immediately

5.Don't wait till the end to worry about your grade worry about your grade every day

6.Keep open lines of communication with instructors be teachable and show them that you are serious

7.Nursing school is far more than learning the definitions if you cannot apply them they are useless to you

8.If you are unfamiliar with medical terms start looking over some ASAP I took medical terminology when I was in 9th grade I have no issues but I noticed a lot of my classmates struggled because they were unfamiliar with terms like flatus, neonate and normal words like contraindicated and retaliatory.

I hope this helps! Good luck

Thank u all for the advice!! Sooo appreciated...goodluck to everyone!! I'm super excited; But nervous!!!
