I know I will get a list of what supplies I might need such as b/p cuff, stethoscope, etc. I would like to get some advice from other students whether current or about to enter the program about what they have found helpful during the program or what they think would be beneficial during the program.
I have 3 inch binders, highlighters, index cards and some other supplies. I do have different colored pens, and I have found those were helpful for me in my other courses when taking notes. I do plan to get a good amount of black pens as I know we will need those for clinicals.
Whether books that would help in a certain area or general school supplies, I will gladly take any advice.
Hopefully this will help other students as well.
I did see another post in another thread about school supplies, but I thought that might be a mix of RN and LPN, and I would like to stick to what we LPN students might need.
I, too am an older student entering in at 40, so I empathize with you on trying to save your back!
The costs of this stuff can add up quick. I frequent my two local Goodwill Stores, and I found lots of great stuff for school nice and CHEAP! I have found unopened index cards, paper, notebooks, all like new.
Something else I do, I go to yard sales. I found the KAPLAN NCLEX RN Medicine Flashcards for $1.00....A DOLLAR!!! I snatched those puppies right up!
Hope everyone finds exactly what they're looking for.
JustBeachy-I have checked out Lands End bags, but they are a bit too pricey for this girl. I love them though. Thank you for the suggestion.
Butterflie7-I wish you the best as well!
PinkHoyt-HA! Don't stress over a bag. Just google nurse clinical bag, and you will see the type of bag someone else mentioned.
Newb-I'm glad to see some older students here besides myself. YES! This stuff definitely drains the account quickly. I think I had read before about checking out Goodwill. Thank you for the reminder. I'm going to do just that very soon. AH!!! I am so jealous you found the flashcards for $1.00! Major win for you! That is awesome!
Great question Lynne. I am looking forward to finding that out. I think mostly it will be our book list and supplies for clinicals though there might be some school supplies they might suggest. I'm interested in what others say about this as well.
I found some pens and highlighters on clearance today so I immediately snagged those to add to my stash. I'm just itching for the back to school sales to start though I'm not itching to spend the money!
Hello
I am starting school September 6th. 11 Month LPN course in New Jersey. Just curious if anyone is starting in Jersey as well. I also wanted to mention that "Dansko" makes great nursing shoes - They are a little pricey about $100-$115 - but hear they are very comfortable and certified by Podiatry Association.
I want to wish everyone luck - seems like a rough road coming up from what I am hearing. I have already taken A&P in college so I guess thats a good start. If anyone is interested in starting to get some Anatomy and Physiology under their belt, BARRONS puts out a great book - "EZ A&P". Its not expensive, about $25 and its just GREAT. I am going through it myself to brush up. It would be helpful to anyone even if you have never studied A&P.

I finished my LPN program in May and currently waiting to take my schools exit exam on July 11. I would definitely buy a good stethoscope since the one the schools give out are plastic and you can't hear fine sounds with them. Also if your school doesn't provide you with a Saunder Nclex PN book go buy one its really good basically clear cut information just like ati but explains more. The CD to the book really helps most of my friends who have taken their exit exam have told me they only used saunders to prep for their exit exams and all passed. A watch with a seconds hand is also important to take vitals , index cards and drug cards. I would also suggest going to a barnes and noble and looking up the medical section for LPN flip books with mnemonics and med surg pharm. I brought two from lippincott online for cheaper after searching them up on amazon and they were really helpful in helping me memorize important facts easily. Much success in your class and invest in lots of coffee!! lol
