LPN to RN Valencia Community College Specific Questions

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I've done a lot of reading, I understand all the requirements. I understand that classes are online and Lab and Clinical are required in person as well as in person testing. My questions are ONCE I have been accepted:

1. For semester 1 is Lab 1 day a week (Wednesday) at Osceola Campus?

2. For Semester 1. Is there also a Clinical day?

I've read that in semester 2 you have 2 Clinical mental health days. I do understand that you have to go to your clinical site the day before to gather pt information. My questions are:

1. Are you physically at clinical 2 whole days a week not counting the day you gather information on your patient.

In semester 3 you are required to work your assigned preceptors schedule, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. My question is:

1. How many days per week are you required to do this?

2. How many total hours are required?

3. Is it possible to get a preceptor that works night shift?

I'm trying to figure out if I can manage the school's clinical schedule requirements. Any information regarding specific details will be much appreciated.

Not yet. I still need micro. Gonna take it this fall and then apply for summer next year. I know it's so far away but I'll get there. You didn't it after 22 years so glad for you!!!!

Msnurse- I loved Micro-what school are you at? I took Micro with a regular good teacher at Valencia-really made it fun!!

I will be taking it at Valencia hopefully with Curtis Davis as I have been reading teacher reviews on ratemyproffesor.com and he seems to be a good teacher... Who did you take?

BTW March 4th was orientation. Tell me what you know...lol PLEASE. Especially clinical and lab schedules. Thanks!!!

Hey sorry...been so busy... Yes orientation was yesterday and they gave us a ton of info...A lot to take in all at once. The semesters are each 6 weeks only and the first semester, the first 3 weeks is Transition into professional nursing and the 2nd 3 weeks is Maternal Child Nursing. 1st 3 weeks starts May 9th... Our mandatory lab dates are every Wednesday at the Osceola campus 7-5..and at the beginning of each lab theres a mandatory lab orientation you have to go to in person as well. So basically every Wednesday from may 9th till 6-27 theres a once a week lab at the Osceola campus..then 2nd 3 weeks theres also a once a week clinical rotation Wednesday switching off between OB clinical and Peds clinical at either FH-Winter Park and APH or FHS..My Microbio teacher was Dr. Michael Taylor at VCC but I think he's gone now...He was awesome!! People jump thru hoops to get in his class.

Thanks so much!!! Just to clarify something... You said lab is once a week til June 27th then said 2nd 3 weeks there's ALSO clinical. So does that mean there is a lab AND a clinical in a week? I'm under the impression that once lab is done there's just clinical but that's just an assumption.

No I am sorry the lab is in the first half(3weeks) and the clinical is in the second half(3 weeks)...No lab in 2nd half...only clinical time at the hospital...

Fabulous. Thanks. Are clinicals also on Wednesday? Or will they vary. You've been most helpful. I really do appreciate it.

Well they only gave us the info for the first semester...Once you pass the first then we will be given the info for the next term...So yes for The 1st semester it's only Wednesdays.
