LPN/RN thoughts?

Hi everyone,

Anyone have any thoughts on going into an LPN program b/c you cannot get into the RN program? What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing this vs just waiting another year? Thanks!

    A benefit of doing the LPN-to-RN bridge is the fact that LPNs can earn a decent income and have a nursing license to fall back onto while attending an RN program.

    A disadvantage of doing the LPN-to-RN bridge is the fact that many people become LPNs with the full intention of becoming RNs, but life often gets into the way of many of their plans to return to school. If you don't return to school to pursue your RN license soon after completing an LPN program, it is hard (but not impossible) to get into the mode of going back to school after so much time has passed. I've seen many people with good intentions fall into this trap.

    I have a friend who wants to be an RN, she went to a fast track school, got her LPN, and I don't see her ever getting her RN. She has no time. I encouraged her to go straight through, but she instead starting working. It's been almost 1 year and she is trying to have another baby.

    Anyways, where I am located, going the LPN-RN track only saves about 6 months time, so for me, it's not worth it. I'll be working on BSN courses while waiting on the RN waitlist.
