LPN to RN Program?

Published

Are there any schools/programs that anyone knows of that you can get your RN if you are already an LPN without having to start from scratch?

I only know of Helene Fuld nursing school in Manhattan, where if youve been an LPN for at least a yr you can go into there 1 year program to get your RN. I know there are online programs but I prefer an actual school.

To be honest with you I had been a LPN for about 5 years before getting my RN,I dont think they are that serious about the amount of time you have been a LPN,they may say so on the phone, but in person its a different story,If I were you I would finish your LPN and then go there with your grades,if you graduate with an overall 85 or so average I dont think it will be a problem, thay mainly look at what kind of person you are, work ethic things like that, remember they are a private college and basically make their own rules, unlike your local community colleges. When your done with school look into it and sit for the admissions test, its basically basic math and reading comp. I believe Helene Fuld will drop the one year requirement, if your grades from LPN school are above a 85.

I'm sorry didn't realize this thread was so old--- but here goes...

If you live in Brooklyn, Molloy college in Long Island offers a LPN-BSN program and Molloy is a pretty good institution from what I've heard. Helene Fuld is not your only option depending on how far you wish to travel from Bklyn, there are two schools in Yonkers--- St. John's and Dorothea Hopfer. Also in Queens St. Vincent's hospital has a program affiliated with Queensboro community college. Like I said it depends on far you wish to travel. I personally traveled from the Bronx to Rockland county and did the LPN-RN program in 12months even went on a study abroad with the nursing department to London for 3 credits. I loved the program and graduated in 03

good luck

i plan on moving to brooklyn some time next year, how far would you say Molloy College is from bklyn? Do you know of any schools in brooklyn for LPN-BSN...thanks :D

Molloy is in Rockville Center, I'm not sure where you will be living in Bklyn and there are several ways of getting to LI from there via driving or the LIRR go to the website for info on the LPN-BSN and the address as well

OKay Ive got questions especially for the user who posted several schools other than Helene Fuld.....

I tried calling St Vincents a few weeks ago and was told they don't have an LPN to RN Bridge....

And Molloy's lpn to bsn program is how long? Two Years ?

Also, what school did you go to in Rockland?

Ive found a few schools that do give LPNs credit but it's only exemption for one course or two. So far Helene Fuld has been the only school that you can do the whole course in one year.

Sorry for so many questions .. but I do appreciate all the info received.

You seem to be leaning toward Helene Fuld and I can see many of the posts are from current students or Helene Fuld grads--- I am not hating on Helene but I would suggest you look at other programs. Quickies are not always the way to go. I don't know if you plan on going further or if the associates is your limit compare and contrast be a wise consumer. OK so molloy is two years--- but you're getting a BSN which in NYC will in time be the minimum. What's one more year. The tuition at Helene is not that cheap--- you must take a chemistry course which will not transfer to any program--- unless things have changed. If you are moving to Bklyn you have so many options--- go to the website for the NYS board of nsg I tried to send you a link but could'nt so try www.op.nysed.gov and look up LPN-RN programs. All I'm saying is shop around before you decide---

I went to Rockland Community College in Suffern ---- there were challenge exams to exempt LPN's from 3 semesters Med/Surg I, Maternal Child Health, and Pscyh--- so the last semester you do Med/Surg II and Peds, Health assessment and pharmocology. Some of my friends went to Helene and are now RN's if I were ever to become sick---- they could be my nurses anytime. The only difference between them and I is student loans:lol2:

rockland was less than $300/credit

Actually the reason for the post was because i was looking for options OTHER than Helene Fuld. Where Im working now,EVERY LPN who has gone back to get their RN has gone to Fuld. I thought that it was the only option available so I started doing a little research and saw there were other schools. When I brought back that info to my job, they STILL insisted Fuld was the only way to go simply because it is apparantly the only one year lpn to rn transition in the NYC area. I live in south brooklyn now making fuld an hour and half by train plus a two hour train ride when they do clinicals in the Bronx so I was looking for something I could drive to which is why the school in queens seemed great to me. I went to their website and from what I see its a 2 yr ADN program. LPN's are exempted from some courses however it would still remain a two year program. You mention LICH in brooklyn which is another two year program. I actually started out going there for my RN a few years ago. School was great but i failed twice in my last semester( both times by 2-3 points on my final URGH!) but again I hesitate to go because although the quicker option may not always be the best, I feel as though I wasted two years already when I failed out. Im sorry for the long drawn out reply, Im sure no one is interested in the personal details mentioned but your responses have been appreciated.

Sorry I misread your original post, I thought you were looking for LPN-BSN. Anyway Helene is one year LPN-RN if you go full time. If your job has some affiliation e.g. placement preference or tuition reimbursement--- then go for it. I mentioned Molloy because for the price of Helene (if this is coming out of your pocket) you might as well get a BSN. Of course it won't be one year--- but hey you'll be ahead of your colleagues with your bachelors degree which could open up a world of opportunities for you. Again I am in no way putting Helene down and i'ts good that you are shopping around for the best school thats what its all about. You are absolutely right the other programs will exempt LPNs from one or two semesters making the program a little over a year. Whatever you choose I'm sure you will be successful at it --- good luck and Happy 2006!
