Can you apply for the July residency programs now? In the meantime, you can work in pediatric private duty until your dream position in PICU or NICU opens.
Be mindful that PICU and NICU are coveted specialties and highly competitive to get hired into, so it might be a very long time before you obtain the dream job. Good luck to you!
Some new grad residency programs will not take LPNs, and /or if you work in med/surg as RN, it may count as experience and exclude you as well. Check before you take any job. But good luck. As Commuter said, highly prized and competitive specialty. Have a backup plan in case you don't get into the residency

New grad programs won't take RNs who have been LPNs?

So I recently passed the NCLEX-RN. I work very PRN as as a home health LPN. (I have no desire to work FT in HH and I feel like I'm getting the run around at my current job when inquiring about being a PRN RN) It is my dream to work PICU but wouldn't mind working in the NICU. My issue is that all the residency programs start in July. Clearly I can not wait until July to work. What are some other options I could do in the mean time. I've worked med surg as a LPN and hated it.
Please help!
