lpn/rn in homecare

Published

I recently graduated from lpn school in january 2004:) and have been working in long term. And I also have been doing homecare taking care of disabled people.Im not enjoying long term as much as I thought I would.I love the nursing part of it.But not the working environment.I was an aide in assisted living when I was in school and I really enjoyed it.I think I want to do that part time and do home care part time.My real question is: Whats the job & pay difference between an lpn & rn in home care? Im really interested in doing visits involving treatments, dressing changes & simple proceedures. The thought of working in a hostpital scares me:uhoh21: and I would probably get eaten alive.Speed is a weakness of mine, and I really like the home environment.Any info is greatly appreciated.

:) Thank you again for the wonderful advice. Its been a while since Ive visited.Ive been working for a home care agency since nov 04.I really enjoy homecare I really think Its where I belong.I dont like working 8&12 hr shifts.I have children & too much housework to keep up with.I dont know for some reason its easier for me to work a few hours in the morning & a few hours in the evening than a straight 8 hr day.In home care I can tend to my family responsibilities easier between cases without getting tired. The only thing I dont like about this agency is that I take care of disableled individuals only & I dont use a lot of nursing skills except foley residuals. Im afraid that If go to another agency I will ruin a good thing or I will be rejected for not having enough med surg exp.I have 1 year of skilled and am very good at feeding tubes, insulins. But I miss the feeding tubes, wondcare etc.I like the hands on stuff,I dont care for paperwork or lg pt load.I like to give quality care. Thanks for listening & hope to here from someone.

Kameerkids, have you considered private duty (hourly) home care? I know many LPNs here in Ma that do it and get plenty of skilled care. Also, you can pretty much set your own hours.
