LPN Programs @ Community College in SoCal Area

Here in CA and in Texas as well, we call LPN's, Liscensed Vocational Nurse's, or LVN. The following community colleges offer LVN programs at around $2500 for the entire program, or $20 per unit

Mira Costa College in North San Diego County (Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, Rancho Bernardo area)

San Diego City College (Downtown, Central San Diego)

Grossmont Health Occupations (East San Diego; Santee)

Southwestern Community College (South County; Otay, San Ysidro, Chula Vista)

All of these colleges also have the LVN-RN step up for when you are ready to go that route.

Can you tell me how the admissions procedures are for your community colleges for LPN or RN in San Diego CA?

If you have a B.S. in Biology - does this help? How competitive is it? What are they looking for? Is there a wait list? Thanks!

chaffey community college has a LVN program in their Chino campus. From what I read before, you will need to attend an information orientation.

community colleges are definetely cheaper but your start date depends on the how many students are applying and how many slots are available then the waiting depends on what system the college goes by, some use lottery system, some use a list system.

I went to Grossmont Health Occupations for my LVN. I completed my pre-reqs at Grossmont College and I am currently on the waitlist for the LVN to RN program. I have been on the waitlist for 1 year and I am hoping that I will get into the January 2010 class. Before you can apply to any RN or LVN to RN program you have to get the pre-reqs completed. The pre-reqs are Anatomy, Physiology and Microbiology. Each college is a little different, you can go to the colleges websites and get the specific requirements.

I'm also interested in the Grossmont LVN program... can you tell me a little more about it? I know that there is a mandatory CNA and Health Essentials course requirement but I wasn't sure how the application process worked?

Where did you take your Health Essentials course and how much was it/how long was it?

They have changed the application process a little since I graduated form the LVN program. To get the most complete information I suggest you stop by or give them a call.

When I signed up for the Healthcare Essentials and CNA class it was on a first-come-first-serve basis. It was frustrating because I knew I was serious about the process and I knew that there were several people that got in the class that dropped half way through.

The LVN was based on a basic skills test and completion of application and pre-reqs (Healthcare Essentials and CNA).

I know that I have not been very helpful but let me know if I can do anything else.

Also, you can go to the BVNPT website and they have a list of all of the CA colleges that offer LVN programs.
