Lpn program in the grater peoria, pekin or canton area?

[color=olive]does anyone know if the lpn program is offered at either peoria, pekin or canton?:confused:

my sister wants to relocate to either one of these cities but only if she could get her lpn degree there.:nurse:

any information is greatly appreciated!!:wink2:

I think IL Central College in East Peoria has an LPN program. However the job market in this area is tough even for RNs and even tougher for LPNs. WOuld she consider an RN program?

[color=olive]i think she wants to become an rn but would like to get hands on experience in the meantime.

she is thinking of doing her lpn and go straight for the rn right after, but working in the medical field as a lpn in the meantime, in order to gain experience.

any advise, as far as, other ways of gaining experience:confused:

Best bet would be to contact the school you want to attend to find out the wait time and then reassess. If you are willing to pay for private schooling, you might try Bradley University - they probably have the shortest wait time. Other private school options include OSF Saint Francis College of Nurse and Methodist College of Nursing - both of these are in Peoria.

Methodist, OSF and Bradley only offer BSN degrees, no LPN there. OSF also does a MSN and Doctorate. Graham Hospital has an RN program. Many people commute to the Capital Area School of Practical Nursing in Springfield. That seems to train most of the LPN grads (from my knowledge). She may be able to carpool... always seems to be someone from Peoria in the program. Otherwise, ICC... but there is interest than space.

As someone who did the LPN to ADN to BSN, etc., route, I would advise folks if they KNOW they want to be a nurse, go straight for the BSN.

Yes in Canton there are two programs but one is to become an RN, the other is Spoon River College it is a one year program

Galesburg is about 45 minutes from Peoria with LPN and RN programs at Carl Sandburg College, but ICC in Peoria is a lot cheaper!

Ive heard that Sandburg Jr. college in Galesburg even has an evening LPN program.
