Lpn program and Clinicals

Here's how they did it at my school. The year was broken up into 4 quarters. The first quarter had 2 days of clinical/3 days of lecture a week in the last half (first half was all lecture), second quarter had 2 days of clinical/3 days of lecture throughout, and the 3rd and 4th had 3 days of clinical/2 days of lecture.

Another thing to consider is my school was 8-4 but sometimes you had evening and even weekend clinicals. I don't know about your area but I know in mine now schools are FIGHTING for clinical time in hospitals and RN students get priority so LVNs often get nights and weekends.

In my LVN program I knew well in advance when and where my clincials would be, RN school not so much lol.

I would think all programs are different. My first semester we only had a practicum. We did all of our classes and then we went into ltc and did personal care. Second semester we did clinicals and practicum. While we still had classes we were also doing our palliative rotation in the hospital. Then during practicum we did rehabilitative care at a ltc facility. Third semester we did our surgical rotation during clinicals and maternity and pediatrics during practicum. Fourth semester is our medical floor rotation for practicum and then our preceptorships. My preceptorship also happens to be on the medical floor. Oh, we also spent one day in dialysis and one day in ambulatory care.

All of our clinicals or practicums have been during the week but not 9-5.

In my program we had set days that clinicals were on. For the first few months we had clinicals two times a week and three days in class for lectures, later on we had clinical three times a week and lectures twice a week.
