I would go for your lpn, and then go back and do the bridge to get your rn. That's what I'm doing because the waiting list for the rn program is so much longer at my school, and I want to get my career started and get my foot in the door to the nursing profession.

I say do which ever has the shortest waiting list... in my school in (cali) LVN has 2x the waiting list as RN why you suppose? because the requirements are very minimal... At least for the RN you could start to get the pre reqs done if you dont already have it.. otherwise if you so happen to wait... why not do the upper division courses for the BSN?? at least you wont be doing anything... and if you get financial aid youll have money for a little wiggle room. Another reason i would steer more torwards the RN vs the LVN(LPN) is because generally LPNs tend to get comfortable making the money.. which isnt bad at all.. but you stay a little stagnant.. and also More importantly many hospitals in CA are trying to phase out the LVN's so its becoming increasingly harder for them to find jobs or get jobs for that matter... New grad RN's are having a hard time finding jobs nowadays so imagine what its like for LVN's.. and i dont know how you our personally reguarding morale and self esteem.. but the hospital i work at.. specifically ICU/ER depts its like a totem pole.. which i assume you have noticed.. when it comes to the type of coworker and political treatment given.. CNA is generally on the bottom.. LPN middle and RN on top.. most of the LPNs (which is very few in my unit) get treated horribly and usually end up with low morale.. For these reasons and more.. if given the choice.. just go for the gold.. hope that helps...
