I am a tech on a med/surg unit at a hospital. I will start LPN school in Oct. and plan on working at this hospital when I graduate. However, I found out last night that LPNs can work in the ER at the hospital where I work at. Should I work in med/surg or the ER as soon as I graduate? The LPN that worked in the ER that I talked to recommended I start in the ER if I was interested in it.
My passion is labor and delivery (which I will do when I'm a RN) so I feel like the ER would be good to start out in due to the whole "can be quiet one minute, crazy the next" (I do know med/surg can be like this as well) thing and help me handle emergency situations better. However I'm wondering if it would be better to start out slower to learn and improve my nursing skills in med/surg.
Thoughts?

I say start ER first not all hospitals will let lpns work in ER and the more experiences you see and do the better nurse you become.

If I had had the choice when I went to work on a med/surg floor, I would have taken the ER. I might not have injured my back as quickly and been off work for 13 years.

Depends on the state you live in..some won't let LPNS work in the ER
