LPN/LVN in OR?

Published

Does anyone work in OR? I am a LPN student and I love working in OR during my clinicals. I have worked more with the OR teams than any of my classmates(I have scrubbed in and passed instruments) and have had offers to do my leadership in OR, but my school will not let anyone do leadership in OR(they say it is too advanced for a LPN :o ). I have seen in my area hospitals looking for LPNs to work with CRNAs in surgery, but I would like to know if anyone has real work experience in OR.

Thanks...

Hi Marie! I'm a LPN and would love to work in the OR as a scrub nurse. May I ask how you came to be in the OR? Did you have on the job training or did you take surgical tech. classes? Right now I'm working Ambulatory Surgical Care, postoperative care only, and assist with endoscopy. But my heart is to be in the OR a as scrub nurse. I'm just little uncertain if I should go to school for surgical tech.

Yes, please share your experience. I am thinking about working in the OR after I finish as well. What are your actual duties?

Our facility had a position open for an LPN in OR on the intranet job postings. I applied, and simply got transfered and promoted after graduation.

We have on the job training. For RNs, the training is separate, for LPNs it's separate, and for techs it's separate.

I do PRN in preop in Ambulatory, just for a change of pace.

It all depends on what your facility would require for you to scrub as to whether you should take those classes or not.

But if your facility trains you, you might have a requirement to work a certain amount of time to pay for it.
