b. Pose a leadership/management question that you’re burning to ask.
c. Read what others write or say.
d. Come up with at least one concrete management tip to share with the class
So now that I know this is the assignment.....
In my opinion the best things a manager can do is appreciate the employees. Let them know that they are valuable to the team. Acknowledge the good things and say thank you for a job well done. Let them have control over their environment and schedules. Ask them to join is the administrative decisions that are made...let them have REAL input not just empty meetings that go nowhere. Stand behind your staff. Let the have real input to affect change.
When I was a manager. I allowed my staff to self schedule. As long as everything is covered...and within budget....the schedule was what they wanted. I once had coverage over the holidays done in 4 hour shifts. It was a huge hit! You can do anything for four hours!
Have an open door policy! The staff knew that I was available at all times.....for venting sessions, complaints and bickering.
Be involved in the staff. I would jump in whenever necessary to help the staff when they are drowning in critical situations....even give baths and pass meds if they were over whelmed.
I came in on off shifts to do paperwork and see the staff....just be available to them on a regular basis to let them know they were appreciated and heard.
I worked for a facility that embraced these ideas. They would occasionally order pizza for the entire staff as an appreciation during busy high census times. They would use security in vehicles to got staff during snow storms to drive them to and from work. If a storm was anticipated.....staff was asked to come in for the next shift call pay was paid to the staff to spend the night ordering pizza and making showers available to the staff in the morning...one huge sleep over party and free breakfast in the morning. hey would remember nurses week and give appreciation gifts like very nice jackets with the hospital logo, tote bags, small gifts were all ways they showed they cared.
I would hold Holiday parties at my home and remember birthdays with a dollar lottery ticket. I made sure they felt empowered and appreciated for all their hard work.
I was supported and appreciated by administration
Unfortunately....here in the US this no longer exists....hence why I left management.
Thank you for posting your assignment....we can now understand what the objective is! See your other posts for input.
