Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

I just graduated LPN school here in MI, && waiting to take my NCLEX. I've been seriously thinking about making the move to So. Cal. && Apartments and cost of living are more expensive out there, so im curious what the average pay rate is out there..

if you dont mind sharing, id love to know.. :D

Thanks!!!

I work as a LVN, in San diego. I started off at $22. I think it just depends on where you work. I know that if you work in a nursing home you might get paid more than if you worked for a hospital. I work for a nursing home, but in there Sub-acute unit. Its up to you, and where you want to work, and what you looking for in a job. GOOD PAY or GOOD Benefits !

Hi there! I am having a hard time finding a job as a new grad too. I am currently in the inland empire but would love to move closer to my family in San Diego. Do you know of any places where it might be possible to get hired as a new grad? thanks!

Not to be negative, but be sure you have a back up plan! There are a lot of LVN jobs out here, but every single one is requiring 1 year experience, even SNF's! I've been looking hard and heavy for 3 months and have gotten no calls or interviews. I did exceptionally well in school and clinicals and thought that would help me, but nope.

It's SOOO frustrating. I've lived out here for the last year and a half as an LVN and decided to hold off looking for a job due to raising kids. Here I am now ready to work and there's nothing! I am so eager to get to work and I can't find anything. It's crazy how you always here about the nursing shortage but with such a horrid economy and a huge boom in nursing students and graduates it seems there is no shortage only an abundance of unemployed workers in every field. Makes me want to cry. Anywho, if you have the option do yourself a favor and do not move to California. My family and I are seriously considering moving out of state.

 I'm doing every thing I can to stay positive!!:)

I graduated from nursing school with my LVN back in 2009, I have been unemployed the entire time. There are so many nurses in Ca and no jobs for LVN's. Now i'm back in school going for my RN and are truly considering moving out of California after I get my RN. Nursing jobs are scarce especially when you have no experience. all the employers say must have 1 year experience, but you can't get the experience if no one will hire you to get the experience you need. I feel like I really wasted my time becoming an LVN, my life is still the same before becoming an LVN i was unemployed, now I am an unemployed LVN!!!!

Hi Struggling LVN, yes we all fell into the hype from the government tauting the need for nurses, but they didn't specify that the shortage of nurses were RN's, so I too got my LVN license and am currently working to move up to RN/BSN.....but the flu shot clinics will utilize inexperienced nurses to get your experience going. I know it's not what you're looking for, but its a start, then just continually pursue (and bug) a few SNF's to get one of them to hire you. I started that way and now actually have people calling me. So stay strong, it'll happen.

My last comment above was from Oct 2010, but after that flu season I was working....Good Luck!

Oh, by the way, try Maxim healthservices and Mollen immunizations for flu shot clinics.

Maxim is everywhere and Mollen you have to find on the internet, they are actually out of AZ, but will hire you for the market here.
