LPN/LVN New Grad pay in So. Cal?!!
Hi Struggling LVN, yes we all fell into the hype from the government tauting the need for nurses, but they didn't specify that the shortage of nurses were RN's, so I too got my LVN license and am currently working to move up to RN/BSN.....but the flu shot clinics will utilize inexperienced nurses to get your experience going. I know it's not what you're looking for, but its a start, then just continually pursue (and bug) a few SNF's to get one of them to hire you. I started that way and now actually have people calling me. So stay strong, it'll happen. My last comment above was from Oct 2010, but after that flu season I was working....Good Luck! Oh, by the way, try Maxim healthservices and Mollen immunizations for flu shot clinics. Maxim is everywhere and Mollen you have to find on the internet, they are actually out of AZ, but will hire you for the market here.

Death: The Reason I Became a Nurse
I "fell" into hospice nursing and I have to say, I cannot see myself doing anything else! It is such amazingly rewarding work. The love you see and witness, the life stories you hear, the one on one loving care you get to give, AND witnessing their transitions along with their experiences with spirits, priceless! I am welcomed into people's homes to assure that their loved one, leave this world and go into the next with peace and no pain. I know it's not for everyone, most people get sad faces and say "aaww" when they find out what kind of nursing I do; then after sharing the rewards, I get "I still couldn't do it, it's just too sad".....lol. I guess not, but we each have our own "love" or specialty and put our all into it.

college network & new tax credit.
Hi dstep102570, What did you use for TCN's federal id#? I defiantely want to be able to write off something! I was reading up on the American education credit and this program, leading to a BS qualifies as a degree program, I would think we should be able to use it.....We will have a bachelor's after all is said and done.

LPN/LVN New Grad pay in So. Cal?!!
Not to be negative, but be sure you have a back up plan! There are a lot of LVN jobs out here, but every single one is requiring 1 year experience, even SNF's! I've been looking hard and heavy for 3 months and have gotten no calls or interviews. I did exceptionally well in school and clinicals and thought that would help me, but nope.

LVN resume
I am in the same boat....I'm on this site looking for help and ideas. I graduated in May, license in hand in August and nothing.......not even an interview. I started off applying even if it said one year exp. required and now I've kind of backed off from that. I don't know what to do anymore. I have became quite creative on ways to looks for my first job. I do not care where I work, I just NEED to work!

Any hints on organizing patient info?
Can you forward a copy of what you came up with for rehab nursing? I am a new LVN and I am going into detox and rehab nursing. I'd appreciate it. Thank you

Any current kaplan students
I don't know because I never looked into going to Kaplan, but do they offer a RN bridge program? Maybe that's what they were saying that they were having a problem with? I would think, and anyone please help with this, that if the LVN class is accredited by the BVNPT and NCLEX will allow you to test, that it should be valid and transferrable to a RN certificate or degree? I didn't want to alarm you, I just wanted to make sure everyone has done their homework because of Kaplans problems I saw on tv.......

Experienced nurses: What do student nurses do that drives you nuts?
and I would, but just playing both sides.......our teacher wanted us "on the floor" and to "have our care plans done".....(LOL, I usually got just ok grades on my care plans because I didn't spend enough time on them, because I'd rather be on the floor learning skills)...so I'd back up against a wall, out of the way and write on my clipboard.......but others didn't and I know it looked bad and was rude at times.........

Experienced nurses: What do student nurses do that drives you nuts?
Doing the care plans at the nurses station is what we're TOLD to do. Ask the clinical instructor before getting preterbed at the student.....I know our clinical instructor wanted the care plans done before we left the floor that night! Hhhmmmm, how else to do it? Go hide in an empty room??? Also as a student, you have to be working with a LVN or RN who is going to have the patience and time to teach you, and tell you to come along to some procedure......not dread it when they see students show up. Also, it is frustrating to students who want to learn, that other students are standing around and giving the whole group a bad name!

Experienced nurses: What do student nurses do that drives you nuts?
As a prior nursing student, our clinical instructors wanted mulitples of us to go in when a cath was being done, especially if we hadn't seen it or done it........... The annoyances, ok - agree with ya there, but the humorous items under "appreciation for"......unfortunately we have to do as we're told...........we have ALL been there!

Any current kaplan students
I am not a Kaplan student, but I did see a "blurb" of something about Kaplan and how they are cheating students out of tuition for bogus degree/certificates that are not recognized in the respective industry. Please do your homework!!! Make sure the program is accredited by NLNAC and that the certificate/degree is transferable to a RN program later, (even if you're not sure you want to get your RN).
