Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Really I loved my nursing hat when I was in school. We moved recently and I haven't been able to find my nursing hat.. I'm really sad about this since I really loved mine so much.. I have been looking on the internet and scrub uniform books to see if I could order one, and haven't been ablr to find anything. Does anyone know a phone # or a http://www.... That I could go to , to get me another hat?

Thanks for the help

I hated my cap because at 5'8" it made me look like the flying nun and I worked Ortho back when we had a lot of traction equipment and was constantly getting it caught up in something. When I left that area, I got a smaller one to wear and was much happier. However, it was very interesting taking your lunch break in a room full of different caps, trying to ID where they went to school.

Out of the 33 women graduating in our class this month, 14 wanted caps. Our school has a unique design that students used to order through school. When it became optional in 1991, very few took the option although it is still in our handbook as part of the uniform female students may wear. We found institutional memory had lost the details of who made the caps but fortunately one of our alumna instructors had hers still and we found the company name and custom style number and were able to order some in time for graduation! We are very excited about this and plan to wear them during the ceremony.

Given that nearly 50% of the current group of female graduates want them, perhaps we're not alone out there, eh?

heck no, you're not alone! I graduated a yr ago. our class of 28 voted almost unanimously to wear a cap and dresses (some wore pants). we looked good, and we certainly looked like nurses!

In Canada, the PN's cap has two stripes. The colour depends on the province in which you were educated. Alberta uses dusty pink. BC and Ontario are green and aquamarine.

Oh, and is there a study out there that really states that caps were an infection control issue?? If this were the case, those nurses who wear hijab in Arab countries and the nurses of the far east (China and Japan come to mind) who still wear caps must be doing something to satisfy their ID people.

There has never been a peer reviewed study suggesting that nursing caps carry germs more than any other part of the uniform. As a cap is washable, does it make sence that is would cause more infection than a nurse's scrubs?

I'm glad to see that some young people are still interested in obtaining a cap for graduation. If a school no longer has a cap for purchase, they can obtained from Kay's caps (http://www.kayscaps.com).

Best to you,

Mrs H.
