I think a majority of hospitals will only hire RNs into their L&D floors. You could work in an ob/gyn office though.

My hospital and our sister facilities only hire RN's for L&D... I am in Ohio, don't know about the rest of the country. Here it is a very difficult specialty to enter into... Good luck! :)

You go back to school to get your RN.

I don't know of any facilities that will hire an LPN as an L&D nurse.

You may be able to get a job at an OB clinic. I know lots of them hire MAs, which would lead me to the assumption that they would also hire LPNs.

When I was a student I met two LPNs who worked L& D and both of them were guys :yeah:

However they were grandfathered in to the unit due to their years of experience. Sorry to say that I don't know of a single hospital in my area who have hired LPNs for L & D or mother/baby units in the last ten years.

The OB clinics I rotated through only had MAs, no LPNs, no RNs except for a single NP in each clinic. The NPs handled the low risk pregnancies and physicians had the high risk pts.
