Specializes in LTC,Hospice/palliative care,acute care.

Our entire department of assessors are LPN's-the dept. head is an RN. She signs off their cases-when she is not available due to time off another RN must sign off for them(usually a supe) .My co-workers had to apply for the openings-no one has been hired off the street. They have all been filled in house. They had no special training prior to getting their positions.

Specializes in MDS,ltc, resident focused care plans.

hello,

i would start by expressing interest to your director of nursing or your current mds coordinator, ask them if they need help in that department.

that is how i started, have now been doing it for more than 10 yrs and have been a regional mds coordinator for a major company in the ne us.

good luck.
