I have been accepted into an LPN program. Two semesters-would graduate spring of 18.
Upon graduation I plan to work as an LPN while finishing my RN.
If I choose to just keep chugging along and not do my LPN I could apply to the RN program June of 2018 for the spring of 2019 start and graduate spring of 20.
My end goal is RN, but does it make sense to get my LPN first? Part of me likes this idea because I would make more money while finishing my RN.
Any advice/input is appreciated!!b
thank you!!!

It's your choice. I start my LVN June 22, but I have no choice I need to work while working towards my RN.

I'm going for my RN, and I gave up the opportunity for going for my LPN even when my family and college counselor told me not to. If I went for my LPN I would have wasted a year of not being able to continue my pre-nursing for RN and that would have stretched out my ultimate goal. Now I will be attending a BSN program in the fall after 2 years of taking prerequisites for it.
So ultimately I do believe it is your choice of what you want to do, but I say go for your LPN if only you do not have the financial resources to go straight for the RN.
Though it would be much easier for you to just become a CNA over the summer and work as that while in RN school. That way you can make money and gain some experience in a short amount of time then if you got the LPN.
Also check if your nursing school gives you the option of becoming a LPN after the first year.
Just my personal opinion.

Hi@Sdongoske, I think that is a great idea. I am an LPN, and have been accepted into an LPN to RN bridge program, I'm starting next week. I originally wanted to go straight into the RN program, but still needed to get prereqs, so I decided to go for LPN instead since I had all the prereqs for that program. I am so glad I did so, being an LPN brings so much more experience once you start your RN program than if you don't have any nursing knowledge at all. And LPN's get paid higher wages starting off than CNA's. It all depends what works better for you, if you need to keep working while going to school, then my opinion would be yes, go for LPN and then bridge to RN.
