Loyola ABSN... Spring 2009

Published

Has anyone received early acceptance to the Loyola ABSN program for May 2009?

It seemed like they would, she just told me a decision hadn't been made yet. So, I guess it could go either way. It's worth a shot though. I called the undergrad admissions office.

Hi guys,

I received my acceptance letter on December 1.

I am very happy, but still have to complete two prerequisites though,

Hope I'll see you guys in class :) I would be nice to know you before we become classmates :) Does anyone have an idea where I can take Organic Chemistry online? I would really appreciate any information!

Congratulations! I am still waiting for a letter. The suspense is killing me! I'm hoping its just delayed a few days because I live in Oregon. As for an online organic chemistry course, I need that as well. I was looking into one at http://www.une.edu/

Hopefully I get in to Loyola. I want it so bad that I know I'll be so bummed if I get rejected. Can I ask you what your pre-req GPA was? I have a 4.0 in my pre-reqs and I only need to take 2 more pre-reqs (organic chem and history). I have a B.A. in Public Relations (3.4 GPA) I'm just trying to figure out how I match up to other people that got in :)

Hi Christy,

You know, I just received an email from Sasha, apparently we are not allowed to take science prereqs online, did you know that??? I was hoping to take organic chemistry online, but now I'm so confused and frustrated too! :-D

I have 4.00 in my preregs and 3.9 in my bachelor's.

Don't worry I am sure they haven't made all decision yet, Dec. 1 is just the approximation, hope we'll be classmates :) nice to meet you, I'm Tanya :)

I really don't know what to do with chemistry online... What do you guys think?

btw I was also looking at une.edu

it seems to be a very good chemistry course,

but Sasha said it is not going to work...

i'm so confused... :(

Ugh! That's awful! Well my community college is offering it but won't let me register for the class because I didn't take Chem 223 first! So I guess if I get accepted to Loyola I'll have to BEG the teacher to let me in. Even though she already said no.

Wow you have great grades! I wish I had better than a 3.4 in my first degree! Well I guess all I can say is I did my best in the pre-reqs and hopefully that is enough to get me in. Did you volunteer anywhere?

I have received my bachelor's in another country and got everything evaluated in the US. Maybe you could ask Sasha again, because it doesn't seem right! I also have a similar problem, so I would have to somehow beg for the department consent to take this class :) I don't know if it's going to work, so I'm now really frustrated :( Could you email Sasha and make sure?

I don't know how they make their decisions, they don't tell which component of the application is the most important for them...

I hope you'll get in :) Good luck!

Hi ChristyPortland,

In response to your question: I have a 4.0 in my prereqs but a 3.27 in my first BA (albeit that was from a pretty competitive school). So GPA does matter, but I'm guessing a well-rounded application also makes a difference.

I also only have organic chem & intro psych left next semester. I know the Community College I'm using in the Chicago area offers org chem as a one-semester following basic chem 105 (or two semester basic chem 121-122) with a grade of C or higher. Do you have a 100-level college chem course on your record? Maybe it might make sense to move out here early and take the class in the Chicago area...just a thought...

(FYI - my CC is Oakton Community college, but I believe many other Chicago-area CCs offer a similar one-semester org chem. Loyola's webpage has a list of equivalent courses in the Chicago area, I think?)

Good luck! Hopefully the US mail is just taking its time traveling to Oregon...:wink2:

Well I just got an email from Sasha saying most of the decisions have been mailed but that they are deciding on the last few by Friday. So I called the admissions office to check on my status and they said "We have your application but it hasnt been looked at yet."

What!???? Why haven't they even looked at mine yet? Is it because of the rolling admission? I sent my app in on Oct. 31st.

Well, I hope they don't fill up all the spots before they even get to mine!

this is weird, why haven't they looked at your application yet??

anyway, Sasha confirmed that science courses cannot be taken online, and my local community college doesn't allow me to take it without the prereq....I am now looking at other cc in my area and most of them offer 3 credits of organic chemistry, while Loyola needs 4! I am soooo frustrated.......:(

I still hope you'll be in, I guess you'll have to wait for a few more days.

They've been telling me the same thing for the past week. And I got the same information from Sasha. She said sometimes they put applications on hold because they want additional information, i.e. science grades.

I have a BS in biology but have not finished retaking a science pre-req yet, so I am hoping they are waiting for my final grades.

She said if I am one of those students they will ask for more info. I am assuming in a letter... just hoping I actually get the letter. :)

Yeah I have no idea why they wouldn't even have looked at it yet! Crazy. When did you send your app in? I got mine in the mail on Oct. 31.

I'll be in the same boat as you if I get accepted. (trying to find an org chem class). I wish I knew if I was in or not so I could tackle that issue already.
