low gpa, can i still become an RN?

You know, if you really want something you can accomplish it. Getting Cs in those science classes doesn't mean you can get through nursing school BUT those classes are a good indicator of how you will do in future classes that are as hard or harder. A&P is fundamental to a lot of nursing classes. One question is, did you not do so well in those classes because they were too hard or because you were distracted/not focused? Ask yourself, are you ready to study your brains out and do what it takes to be successful in a challenging/competitive career? Bottom line, you can do anything you put your mind too. Just don't give up. Good luck to you!

well these classes are pretty difficult to begin with but honestly the only one that i considered extremely hard was physio.

i usually do very well at the start of the semester but once i get the final i start to panic and thats when everything goes down hill :/ trust me, i have studied my butt off but my nerves get the best of me and i tend to over think stuff.

If you really want something, you will find a way! I was in your position at one time, my undergrad counselor knew i was pre-nursing but told me I should look into a different major because of my low GPA (I had a 2.16 at the time). I got too much into the college party lifestyle and let it get the best of me. I finished SFSU in 2006 with a 2.5 in nutrition and luckily was able to land a job at Kaiser in nurse administration. There I was inspired to go back to school where I worked full time night shifts 40 hrs a week and went to school full time for a year and a half to get my grades high enough for nursing school. I looked up every school that replaced grades for classes retaken rather than them being averaged out. From then on I was a man on a mission.

This past December I just finished graduate school and I now have my masters in nursing. So yes, it is possible McFrito...you just gotta ask yourself how bad do you want it and take the initiative to work for it. Best of luck to you in your battle ahead.

I won't say it'll be easy, but it'll definitely be worth it! Trust me

Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area has no repeat policy --- retake as many times as you want. Their ABSN does have a 60k + price tag. I retook some classes and got in this semester.

hey everyone, im new here BUT i literally come here almost every single day! i love this website and im so glad that there are so many others out there hoping to accomplish their dream.
that being said, im in a situation where i almost feel like giving up. i cant imagine myself not becoming an RN. its the only thing ive ever wanted to do. i love hospitals and i really want to help others (sounds cliche but i cant help it). last semester i thankfully finished all of my prereqs for nursing BUT unfortunately i received C's in Anatomy, Physiology and Micro. im devastated but believe it or not i gave it my all in these classes.
im so down to retake atleast micro and anatomy but most (if not all) colleges dont accept retakes and if they do, every time you retake something, you'll get points deducted. if this helps im also going to take a CNA training course this summer offered through the Red Cross and hopefully gain some experience and some points for next years nursing school applications.
i live in the san fernando valley and im just wondering if anyone here can give me some sort of advice. i would really appreciate it. i know i have what it takes to become a great nurse.

man i know how u feel majorly becasue i myself got wack grades too im still taking my pre req's not done yet....almost though. I find out my final calss grades next week im nervous. if i pass all my classes then i will only have 3 more left (ap 2 and stat) but i been taking 5 classes this semester and last semester and thats where my down fall comes i cant handle 5 but i did it anyway just so i can finish faster and now my grades suck i got mostly c's too your not alone..i know if i had taken only 2 classes at a time those C's could have easily been B's

i recently applied to Los Angeles Valley College Nursing Program. Im crossing my fingers and praying to GOD i get in.

This girl i know had a much lower overall grade than me and she got in right away.

I had no problems with anatomy and physio (maybe cuz I had strong biology background). However, I had difficulties with theories. I would suggest study hard. And like everyone else is saying, if you are determined enough, you'll succeed. Don't give up. It will only make you appreciate nursing career that much more! Not to scare you but you have tough road ahead of you, but you can do it. Put your heart into it and never give up. I almost gave up cuz of the negative comments from a few instructors, but I turned it around. I passed my NCLEX with minimum questions on my first trial. I can do it, so can you! Go after your dream!

oh trust me, i am determined. this is my dream and i know that nursing programs are easy but i have faith.

this summer im actually enrolled to take a CNA course through the red cross which is gonna give me experience and hopefully some schools will see that im determined.

Hi mcfrito! I know this is a late post and I didn't read all of the posts so sorry if I'm repeating someone elses post! But you can also look into schools that have lottery systems, that regaurdless of your gpa, you can still get randomly accepted. It gives people with lower grades a chance to succeed and become an RN! Good luck and don't give up!!
