Lovenox injection sites

I am in a nursing refresher course. My instructor has informed us to give Lovenox injections in the "love handles". Has anyone ever heard of this? I always gave them in the belly, but my instructor told us the love handles is a better site. More fat in that area, and they don't hurt as much. I am willing to try anything that works, if it means less pain. Just curious if anyone else heard of this?

Nice to know. I hadn't thought of using the love handles. I have not had a problem with Lovenox hurting a patient. But heparin, if given too fast seems to sting a bit. Love handle injection for patients who's insurance does not cover lovenox may be a good practice.

We learned love handles, also. Specifically, antero- or posterolateral abdominal wall.

When the Lovenox rep came thru our facility the were recommending the love handles too said to remember just call it "Love-an-Ox" sounds corny but I think of it everytime I pull one from pyxis lol

I assume the pt education literature states to put it in the abdomen because a lot of them are giving it themselves, and for many people it would be difficult to give themselves an injection in the lovehandles. Most people I've sent home on lovenox are larger and/or older, and I don't see them twisting around to give it.
