Louisiana College ABSN Program

Published

Hi! I'm thinking about applying to the LC ABSN program that starts August 2015. I am currently a medical Technologist but I'm pursuing a Masters in Health Informatics that will be complete May 2015. Can anyone give me any advice about the criteria to get into the program? I have a 3.2 undergraduate GPA. How many applicants do they accept? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Why are you pursuing a BSN if your goal is an MS in Informatics? It seems like a waste of time, money and effort. With your med technology background, I would imagine that you already have sufficient 'clinical' background to obtain employment in healthcare informatics. I know quite a few people that have successfully made the leap from lab to informatics.

Hi! I just am not satisfied working as a medical technologist and I feel that nursing is a better field. I have researched health informatics jobs and alot of them require coding experience which I do not have since I work in a lab. Nurses with masters degrees seem to go pretty far in their field and can even be information officers (from what I've read). I just would like to be in a field with better advancement and more job opportunities. What type of jobs did your associates get when they went from lab to informatics?

Hello can you give me an idea about what kind of jobs were available when switching from lab to informatics? Thanks for commenting.

AmbitiousLady,i am an MT like you,i don't blame you for such a decision the lab sucks ,very limited opportunities ,i myself i am planning in attaining LC august 2015.i had admission for august 2014 but could not attain due to some issues i am going to attain this august 2015.where are you from?i am from Houston there an open House October 9th will you attain i will be there.

Hi Lumbuw22 I'm from Central Louisiana and I will be attending the open house on Oct 9th. I'm still not absolutely sure if I'm going to apply but I'm definitely considering it. I just feel like the lab isn't what I want to do for the rest of my life and we get absolutely no respect. I feel like the lab is also the scapegoat for any problem that occur. Do you have any idea of the cost of the ABSN program? Also what will you do about housing and such?

Tell me about that i have been in the lab for 20 years .i will definitely attain ,i think lc is one of the cheapest amongst the private universities i know ,about $25000 .in terms of housing a friend wanted me to stay with her family but if it doesn't work i will have to look for a room mate

Hi everyone! I am planning on starting the LC ABSN Program this Fall 2015 and I'm looking for a roommate that will be in the nursing program. I plan to move to Pineville, LA around mid- August 2015. If you are interested email me at [email protected]. Good luck to you all!

I have not posted here for a while but am upset about hearing that the Dean left LC in the summer along with most of the nursing faculty. I hope the excellent NCLEX pass rate does not suffer but with most of the excellent faculty who taught our class now gone i am not sure that things will ever be the same. I will keep praying for LC and the nursing program.
