Wow. Just wow to all the "gross" and "yuck" and other comments coming from squeamish practicing medical professionals. As a woman who has a particular interest in Lotus Birth and who has experienced it with my last two babies and who has many friends who also practice Lotus Birth I was going to comment in the interest of sharing information. However, I'm put off by the insensitivity and ignorance contained in the previous posts. Shame on those of you who have such disrespect for the birthing women under your care. I appreciate that not all have been so nasty - thankfully some members here have a level head and an open mind.

you do realize this thread is 7 years old right?

if I asked my kids if they remembered the cutting of their cords, they would ask me what drugs I stole out of the Pyxis today..........
Lol! I thought the same thing. My oldest would say, "Mom, you really should not smoke crack"

As a doula I've heard of this before. I've never experienced it, nor had any clients that have done it, but if they did I would just go with the flow. I don't personally think there is anything to it other than respecting the families wishes and whatever they believe. Does it hurt? Meh, probably not. I do think the woman in the article is a bit fruity though. I've been to Australia, twice, and the last time was specifically for nursing and the culture there is drastically different from the US.

To each their own, yes. I love the idea of all things natural and crunchy, but I'm here to say that both my children would be dead right now if those evil, sinister, knife happy doctors didn't cut me open and yank them out. So, yeah I'm ok with being in a hospital. I *was* low risk for both of 'em...until suddenly, very suddenly- I wasn't.

I personally wouldn't do a lotus birth...I would however ingest my placenta (after it had been encapsulated) it has proven health and postpartum benefits. I am also disgusted by all the "gross" and "eww" comments. And I FTR know plenty of mainstream women who do such things...it isn't only "crunchy" or "hippy" mom's.

I also personally know Robin Lim, and she is an amazing woman and midwife. Do I agree with everything she says and does? No, but she does a LOT for women and babies. You should really know what you are talking about before you bash someone.

I would also *gasp* have a homebirth, a lot of what happens in the hospital IS BS. I know many women, nurses AND physicians (OB's even) who have had homebirths....
