Lots of Credit Hours and Grades

I was just curious of those who have taken 10 or more credit hours was it hard to keep good grades? I am considering taking Intro Chemistry, Eng I, and Political Science or a Required Computer course. It would be a total of at least 10 credit hours. I really need to maintain an "A" to have any chance of getting into our nursing program in May. So far I have maintained an "A" but that was only taking 2 classes at a time. I have 3 kids but I also feel like I should increase my load so that if I do make it into the nursing program it won't be a shock with all the classes I will have to take. The downfall is if I can't keep an "A" then I probably won't make the program.

Thanks,

Beth

I also work 40 hours a week and am married. No kids, but it is still a challenge. Difficult at times but doable. Best of luck to you. :)

Wow Jessica those are great grades!! I don't know how I would do it if I had to work 40 hrs. My kids keep me busy but they are also great about letting me study. My two yr old is the worst right now, pretty clingy. I am just starting back after a two year break. Before I watched four children a day and had my son with me also and managed to pull A's but that was with only two classes. I am so nervous!!

Long summer I took Allied Health, Med terminology, intro computers, and algebra and made A's in all along with working 40 hrs, being married, and extensive remodeling. It can be done!!!

definsytely doable. I have never taken less than 12 hours a semester and i have a 3.11 GPA, than again thats a B average and thats because of Math. I had to retake one of my math classes. And i also work. Good Luck and that computer class is extremely easy!!!

I have never taken less than 15 credit hours and usually take 16 or 17. I have maintained a 4.0. Don't worry, just work hard and you will be fine. Don't you have take at least 12 to be full-time?

Yes, 12 is full time. I am trying to get courses done that are a prereq. for the nursing program so it doesn't matter right now if I am full or part-time. I know part-time is easier on my wallet. :rotfl: Thanks for all the encouragement from everyone!! :) You guys are great on this board!

I have always said, do the best that you know you can give it. Whatever the result, you know that you did all in your power to earn it.

Remember you cannot judge a person solely on their GPA. I have met lots of them who had less than a 3.0 and a terrific nurses while others 4.0 are not.

Some people are book smart but lack efficiency in hands-on and even common sense.

Some are just both and God bless their brain everyday :)

I am still trying to figure that one out! :chuckle Trade? After a couple hours of the terrible 2's you would ship him back. :) My 11 yr old is like a little mother hen, and my 5 year old is just plain sweet! In fact he starts kindergarten next week :crying2:

I wish I didn't have to maintain a 3.8-4.0 GPA, it would make it a lot less stressful. There are so many aspects of nursing that cannot be learned from a book! My sister told she could never be a nurse because she lacks common sense. :uhoh3: I laughed and she said "I am so serious!" She is great with books and has a masters degree, but she really doesn't have common sense and that isn't something you can just learn. I am so scared of the actual hands on part of nursing (hopefully my time in as a nurses aide will help).

Don't be nervous Beth. I have about 30 hours under my belt and have maintained a 3.9 with 4 boys a husband and a dog. It's really hard at times, but you can do it! Believe me, if I can do it...anyone can! :chuckle I was never a good student in high school. I did go to college afterwards but dropped out because I just wasn't dedicated. Confession: I did hire someone to come and clean my house once a week, but it's the best money I've ever spent!! Sometimes you have to get help where help is needed. :rollTake it from me, if you really want to succeed, you will. Study when your kids are out of the house, napping or asleep at night. I also enjoy getting up really early somedays, fixing a cup of coffee and hitting the books for a couple of hours. You can do it! Have faith!

p.s. Keep up the good work Jessica!!!

wow! that is great!! i am nervous about more credit hours but my online english instructor said that if i find it to be to much, to just drop something before the drop date. he said you can always take it next semester. i have decided to take my computer course over the internet along with the english to save those childcare dollars. so, two at the school and two online...hopefully i can do it. it is strange how in highschool i also was just very average, and right after highschool i tried taking college courses and ended up dropping. once i had started having children and decided to go back it has truly been an amazing experience. i would positively say that maturity is the key! thanks for the encouragement!!
